Mohammed_A
Hi Guys, Thought I'd take advantage of the forum's tech advisers.Basically I am considering to swap the 2 pot j-spec brakes I have currently to the 4 pot 325mm UK brakes. As most of you know the car has 17" 8.5 on the front.I need to know roughly much the UK brakes are going to cost, and also will they fit under the 17" wheels? Any advice is greatly appreciated:) . Many Thanks!
Alex
17" yes... What you also need is an offset of 45mm's to make sure the spokes sit proud of the calipers.
Mohammed_A
Thanks Alex, Although I'm not sure about the offest of 45mm,but if it's any help, there isn't much space between the caliper and the spoke at the moment.About just less than a finger space. Alex
Too small, need about 20mm's more clearnce than that.
Mohammed_A
Oh s***! It seems that I'll have to wait until the summer or try and sell the alloys and buy ones which the brakes will fiit under. The 2 pot brakes are really rubbish, can't drive around with near 400 hp with 2 pot's.Everytime I accelerate I need to apply the brakes so early, mostly half-way down the road. Anyone else at BPU++ with 2 pot's? Cheers for the info Alex:)
Branners
If you fit Porterfield race pads then you will find the 2 pots work very well indeed. I used my heavily tuned j-spec on track a few times and never ever faded the brakes. If you find the noise from the pads too much then consider Chris Wilsons fast road pads, almost as good and almost no noise. JB
Mohammed_A
Cheers Branners! I was thinking of that, makes sense might as well upgrade the pads, what about disc's any good make's out there, one's which someone has used or some which are highly recomended? Need4Speed
Fit spacers as an alternative. Whoever invented sliding calipers should have been shot. need is an offset of 45mm this will vary according to the rims in question - find someone with UK brakes and try a wheel swap to gauge the problem. Need4Speed
ps. I use UK 4 pots AND Porterfield R4 pads. No fade but I detect a bit of disc warp on the track; worth every penny.
Dragonball
I have HiSpec racing 6 pots that fit under very small space Great calipers - but let down by shit red-stuff pads! - until I put the ferrodo's on next week! Recommended as good alternative to UK's Cheers Paul:cool:
