Chris Wilson
I'd forget ACL, just pick a set of Toyota shells up. The grading is in tenths of a thou, it really makes sod all difference on a used crank. Just pick a set say two sizes thicker than the thinnest listed. The fact one big end seizes up when the cap is torqued would 98% suggest to me the ACL bearings are not very accurately made. Skyline RB25 and RB26 engines have this issue with the ACL race bearings they do for them. The stock bearing material is probably better, and I would trust Toyota's quality control far more. StuartW
Hi Chris just to update you, I Polished on my lathe with fine emery, my last years used stock block crank to the race engine and plastiguaged it all up. The clearances are GREAT and consistent with no tightening up on any of the journals. my smallest is 0.038 and biggest 0.051 (the tolerance is 0.025-0.070...so finally i have been given some good luck! The mains are new anyway and the only reason i want to replace the new acl ones is because i can see a shiny spot on one where it was tightened onto the bigger journal on my friday afternoon crank! Looks like i am now going to put a set of new clevite bearings in but if you think that OEM toyota's are as good then i will go with that carnal knowledge? It seems acl have a harder mettalergy surface. Clevite are advertised as used in Most top end Drag supra's. But i do have an immense appreciation for stock toyota parts Regards and thanks for all your Specialist advice. Stu
