Jellybean
I re-charged the battery (optima red top) yesterday but car takes a few turns to get her started; normally she starts on the first turn of the starter motor I changed the lamda sensor too last week , not too sure it that will be a factor? Scott
A battery is on the way out when it struggles to turn the starter motor, or if it clicks rather than starts. Taking a few turns to start is nothing to do with the battery, more to do with fueling, timing, ignition.
Jellybean
Lamda sensor , maybe the ECU is trying to re-learn? I took the battery out for 48hours to reset the ECU after fitting the Lamda Sensor It feels like every time I start her she just barely struggles to turn over Edited April 2, 2011 by Jellybean (see edit history)

I took the battery out for 48hours to reset the ECU after fitting the Lamda Sensor It feels like every time I start her she just barely struggles to turn over If it is struggling to turn over (turn over not start) then it could be down to the battery or the starter. Would be better to post a video as I think your description is being lost in translation

Jellybean
I think it is the battery definetly not the starter motor because she started fine two weeks ago no issues. But I had to recharge the battery again it went flat after 2 weeks of sitting idle. When I try to start her the Slip cont lights dim , she just about has enough juice to turn over. symptoms of a battery near flat? Only things that changed since then are the fitting of a lamda sensor Maybe battery contacts need a clean?
Scott
If you let a redtop due, it will be fooked. Your description in your first post is contrasting what you are saying now though. It now sounds like a fooked battery, yes

Jellybean
Lol, sorry. I meant die It happened a few times and when she came in from Japan , no issues once re-charged Will try a different battery tomorrow, to diagnose if it is the battery
Scott
Mine went dead last winter (no lights, nothing dead) and it is totally wrecked. Redtops are notorious for it. Great crank amp batteries but rubbish for deep cycling. I have another but I bought a charger to go along with it this time
Jellybean
My battery is in the boot I need a non-gas emitting battery , recommend any ?
Scott
Yellow tops are fantastic for deep cycling. Quite pricey though.

Jellybean
Before she started straight, near 0 crank time; now it is takes 2-3 cranks; maybe it is the the ECU reset and Lamda sensor change? My battery after 30 mins of idle time dropped to 11 Volts , engine on she is at 13-14 Volts (as expected) . with engine off (just shut down) its 12 volts I just ordered the Ctek CTE-XS4003 Multi Battery Charger 12V fro AGM batteries so will use it and see of it helps, maybe she did not charge correctly using the Abssar charger http://www.halfords.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_11101_catalogId_15551_productId_206665_langId_-1_categoryId_212463 Edited April 3, 2011 by Jellybean (see edit history)
Scott
Zero crank time is near impossible though. You need time for the fuel to get into the cylinders, takes at least 1 crank for that to happen. The only time I could see it happening is in a pre-warmed engine with the system fully primed with no time for it to have drained. There is nothing wrong with the sound of your car starting so that would tell me the battery power is fine. The battery might not be 100% but it's really hard to diagnose when there doesn't seem to be any fault.
Jellybean
If somebody posted that vid I too would be sceptical of any issue , just basing in on how she started since I got her; it feels like a hell of a long time before she starts I will monitor the battery during the week she if she holds a charge
Jellybean
Latest update: After 24 hours with the alarm on only, car stationary battery is at 10.77 volts , I heard it is normal the Slip cont dimming on turn over, 5 min spin I shut the car off, Battery was at 11.7 mark After starting her up, after 2 mins the idle with the car stationary did drop to near 0 revs twice for a split second, I put that down to the ecu reset. Since the lamda change and ECU reset I have not really driven her that much
Scott
You need to get a full charge into your car. A 5 min spin won't do enough to get it up. You need to take it out for an hour or so. Leaving your battery for weeks on end really isn't good for it. It is fine if you are going to then drive the car often, but you seem to do the same as myself. Everytime you start the car you drain it something like 10%, you then need to leave the engine running for a minimum of 20 mins to get that 10% back. If each time you start it you drop 10% and then leave it running for 5 mins or so you will only be getting 2% back thus discharging the battery and killing it slowly. Get yourself a trickle charger. The one I have is £25 in halfords and can be left on constantly

nigelboyne
as above mate you need a good long drive to charge up the battery, but your initial problem to me is the plugs are they due to be changed
