Scratches on windscreen...

Weather was pretty nice today so I went out for a wee drive... while the sun reflected off the windscreen I noticed a lot of fine scratches on the windscreen...

Is there a safe method to remove them? They don't seem too deep as only visible if reflected by sunlight...

Have a go with a brillo pad and some sandpaper while you are at it. Cos see thru glass is clearly not the in thing in the west mids :p

:rlol: I guess i had that coming, as i said it was a guess, i just thought that if you can polish out light scratches on paint, and get a mirror finish, then maybe you could polish glass.

Seriously though, there's no way to get rid of light scrathes on glass? :p

Yes, replace the screen is the easiest and safest way. if you cant see through it you cant go so quick!

Autowindscreens etc will be around £900 fitted, Toyota are around £300 supplied, get autowindscreens to fit for around £50

Ah missed the link on top... machine polish glass .... :S

Halford sell a windscreen repair kit too i think. It's not too bad I won't notice it unless there's reflection or glare so surface scratches i think.

Might speak to the stealership after all I've just bought the car. Also a lot of tiny specs which I presume was from the teflon coating they applied to the paintwork.

Go all out and get the heated windscreen from whifbitz to replace it! New and practical!

There's heated windscreen for the sup? o.0 nice...

It's not for a Supra tho :p

I would love to buy one but parking space in my new house is very tight. No space to park even on the street lol.

It is for a Supra. He had them made specifically for it.

You can machine polish the scratches out of the glass. There are good pastes that do it. I wouldn't recommend just going at it though, you really need to know what you are doing with these things :)

Yeah, I am bit nervous about using machine to polish glass esp windscreen (don't want to make the car undrivable lol). I will have a chat with my dealer and see what he says. Funny how they avoid you like a plague after handing the money over :)

I have removed scratches from my screen using a polisher and compound before now with no problems, basically the same as polishing paintwork, you can even use fine wet & dry, rather do it myself than trust a dealer/garage any day.

Did you use a machine or by hand?

The link shown earlier in this thread uses a modified bit which you put in a drill (

You drunk again? He said he used a polisher, you even quoted it ;)

well...not yet but getting there matey :p

Don't have a polisher :( ONly a cheap halfrauds orbital polisher thingy not sure if that even works now lol.

Thanks Ricky. I will have a look into this but really hoping stealership would look into replacing the windscreen (fat chance but gotta try!)
