kill1308
Hi folks, Wondering if you have any ideas on this problem. Sold my 96 TT - BPU to my uncle last year, he doesn't drive it very often but all of a sudden out of nowhere it's overboosting up to 1.4 bar. I had 4 settings on the Boost Contoller (Blitz SBC ID3), from standard boost ranging to 1.2 bar, it doesn't matter what setting you have on, the car still boosts to 1.4ish bar which obviously isn't good. (The warning function doesn't seem to kick in like it used to either, used to beep at 1.23bar and drop the boost by a set percentage). I'm going over shortly to do a bit of troubleshooting and I wondered if anyone had any suggestions as to what it might be? I was planning on looking for split hoses, air leaks, putting the car in TTC for troubleshooting and finally removing the boost controller unit from the equation. Thanks for any help
Chris Wilson
Are you sure you are getting an accurate boost reading? Does it feel as if it's hitting higher boost? I'd stick a mechanical gauge on it and double check the readings first.
kill1308
Hi Chris, thanks for the reply... Without getting a mechanical gauge on it, it does feel like it's making more boost than it should and it certainly doesn't seem to lower when you change to another channel on the EBC that should be making a lot less boost. I'll see if I can get hold of a mechanical gauge from anywhere.
Nic
Does the boost level drop if you turn the boost controller off?
kill1308
Sorted now cheers guys, found the problem for him. The vacuum cap that was used to block the bottom outlet on the front turbo actuator had come off, nice and easy to solve. That would explain why changing the settings on the boost controller had no effect what so ever
