Divorce and marriage certificates?

Bugger! Just filled my DIY forms out and cant find my original certificate :complain: I have copies but I'm sure you need the original and the court holds it. Problem is I was married in St Lucia :( Bummer.

Anyone experience of changing over property deeds? I'm keeping the house and she's having the flat. Do I need a solicitor to do this or can we just give wriiten authorisation to the mortgage holders etc.

I'm going to join a monastery and become celibate

You can do these things yourself with permission of the mortgage companies BUT no matter how amicable it might all be it's worth getting a lawyer to draw up the papers for you - they can state that the division is a full and final settlement (which you could do yourself) but by seeing a brief you ensure that no one can go back to court in the future claiming they had no legal advice at the time and were screwed - I might sound paranoid but I've been divorced twice now and am about 3/4 million down on the deals even though no kids were involved in the second one....

I believe that it costs about £100 to do a transfer of title for a property if you do it through a solicitor. I got mine done as part of the conveyancing when I bought my ex out of her half of the house (but the solicitors still charged extra for it :( )

You end up with a form saying that the property has been transferred into such-and-such name, and also stating if any cash has changed hands with respect to the transfer.

Yeah OK transfer of equity in my divorce is costing me nearly £400 and I got several quotes. You should get a consent order written up and sent to the courts with the divorce so it prevents any future comebacks by either party. This can be drawn up by a solicitor or as we did by a mediation service and then passed through a solicitor to put it through the courts. You can of course do it yourself if you are savvy in legal speak and can write a legal document that wont leave loopholes all over it. You could end up paying stamp duty and all sorts depending on property values etc. It all depends on who's name is on the deeds. If both names are on both deeds this is going to be expensive as I am starting to find out. In all its costing me £5k to get my wifes name taken off the mortgage and deeds :(

WTF! Sod that, I can get rid for good for 2K:D

Will that convince my current lender to keep me on as sole mortgage holder??? :) I'm a contractor now to achieve the financial sum of money the sods said I had to earn to give me my mortgage on my own. What they didn't state at the time was that they wouldn't accept me as a contractor without 3 years accounts so I have no alternative but to redeem my mortgage and go elsewhere incurring the redemption penalty of about £3k. The rest is all new mortgage booking fees and legal fees.
