Terry,

Its Ethanol which you can't use. AFAIK.

If someone can get a price for it per litre I'd like to know how much Methanol is.

I'll have a play around with a lump of ali and some methanol at work tomorrow if I get chance . . . I have a feeling it will oxidise the ali to some extent but probably not enough to worry about. Ethanol will be less reactive than methanol, but you don't want to use this as you'll get all sorts of sticky goop produced when you burn it!

Even better.....:p

Water methanol, is quite corrosive. But Adam is right, it is no where near as harmfully as you guys think!

A lot of (older) prop aircraft use water/meth injection to increase engine torque, mainly on takeoff, climbing etc with bad conditions or heavy loads.

Loads of Cavalier Turbo and Calibra Turbo owners use this mix, and some even run 80% methanol and 20% water with no problems, and they have been running it for a few years now.

Only problems with the Cavalier and Calibra Turbos is that they can only realistically look at producing 400BHP (reliably) when the engine has been maxed out by tuning.

P.S. Alex, apparently if you want to get methanol, the best place is a model shop that deals in 2 stroke remote control cars. These cars use a methanol/petrol mix with a few other ingredients, meaning that the model shop can get it for you.

I researched Methonal from medical journal and it was said that it was harmful even as a vapour.

SOmeone else on this site works with it and had stated the same.

Just thought I would mention it, but I am not going to say anything more on the subject......

If I'm wrong I'm wrong but if I am right I will see you later.

I just called to say...where are you...

yeah but Brian, health warnings are like speed limits. If you were a perfect human being, you'd follow them . . . but most of us are far from perfect :) :flame Dev

I agree, it is harmful as a vapour but no more so than the atmosphere in your local pub . . . unless you were working with it eight hours a day, seven days a week, a modest exposure to it will do you little or no harm.
