Purity14
Honestly you yourself could walk down a street and a kid could easily come upto you with a knife wanting you money or just wanting to get well known so he stabs you for rep, simple as that. Thats what lifes like round here although things are getting better. Having also lived in salford for a year, coming from countryside area, I can certainly say that it changed my outlook on what is acceptable behavior to exibit in certain places. If you stumble upon a confrontation, which happens very regularly, at least once a week whilst i lived there. If you back down and say you dont want trouble, you will find yourself in an unpleasent situation. If you give them enough shit, you will also end up either friends, or they leave you alone. But if you give too much shit, you will find yourself in an unpleasent situation. Its very difficult; as I attract knob-ends for some reason. Ive had people just walk upto me and try and tackle me down las minute, ive had a girl slash me with a knife across my back and on another occasion been hit with a iron bar across my shoulder. Luckly for me, I came off best in all three occasions (All supprise attacks!) but there are countless occourances that I have been able to defuse with just words. Salford is somewhere where I wouldnt live again, but I am glad that I experenced it.
Purity14
Also, if you see a bunch of Asians(curry variety) you should consider walking the other way. They might only weight 8 stone wet through, but they are ruthless and full of energy, and 90% of the time they are carrying knives. God, haunting times really. Glad im out tbh :
Swampy442
It's ironic that this thread is up. Just rang the Police with regard to a suspected drunk driver. The impression I got was that they were just taking some details and were not actually going to send a car to investigate. I followed the guy for 4 miles and mot a Police car in sight. After two phone calls updating the position of the car I gave up following him as the girl on the other end of the phone sounded like she was filing her nails and chewing gum...!! I am glad I am out of the Police these days as it seems to have deteriorated over the last ten years. H. A very similar thing happened to me mate with a very similar outcome. Some males of Eastern European origin were smashed out of their brains (surprise) and driving (surprise) round my area. Its an inner city terraced house area, not alot of room on the road due to parked cars. They were doing burnouts, wheelspins etc. So I called the cops, gave them reg numbers, the address they went to "yes sir we'll have a car out in 10 mins" This was at 7pm-ish. Come half 10 nobody arrived. The next day called to complainout the lack of response and I was told "we sent a car out but nobody was there" Bollox, I sat outside for 2 hours chatting! Yet if Id dragged them out of the car, Id be the bad guy.

Glad im out tbh : What do you mean by "curry variety"? Luckily the only kids that hang around my area are little white chav kids and I know pretty much where they all live and tbh I took enough sh!t from the chavs when I was growing up that I don't take anyone giving any sly comments or saying anything to look "'ard" in front of their mates. It's kinda fun to make them like a fool and hopefully they'll realise it's not clever and could land them in trouble so they'll stop.. On a side note to that comment, me and the wife are thinking of moving to the Linconshire, Norfolk area, are there any areas you would recommend we avoid? that includes semi rural too. Charlotte
I like how fast people can get themselves into a frenzy about how rubbish the police force is with three lines of text from a half heard news story. Hoorah for complaining.

t-one234
the way i look at it is people slate the police all the time saying theyre getting lazy or loosing there touch but if somthing were to happen like you had been shot, they would be there in minutes and all your preconceptions about them would be forgot if the budget cut means less police staff, then generally, if a call comes in about a murder the same time a call comes in about a drunk driver whats going to take priority? I have no idea what this 'new law' is - you haven't given me any of the background to it. In regards to 'grassing people up' I think people should feel more empowered to do something about problems/issues in their neighbourhood. There's a lot to be said for community spirit. dude
I like how fast people can get themselves into a frenzy about how rubbish the police force is with three lines of text from a half heard news story. Hoorah for complaining. Problem is Charlotte they are rubbish ! IMO this is 1) They achieve nothing when dealing with these little chavs due to the courts not backing them up. (which must be soul destroying) 2) They have got far to PC, when I was a teenager if you abused a copper you would have got a slap from him and then your dad when you got home, now you have the PC brigade like Mr soon to be a policeman. 3) Take a look at andy of the cop programmes on TV, their behaviour, its terrible, if its not some fat lesbian trying to act the hard nut its a skinny little tatoo'd chav who wass bullied at school, they no longer seem to know how to treat anyone with respect, only the other night on one programme a young not very well spoken copper had pulled a woman over and was addressing her as 'mate' WTF is that about and these are the episodes we are allowed to see. The police force is currently nothing more than a corrupt joke unless they are investigating serious crime which IMO is whole diff section of the force and one which will deserve respect although still corrupt and do not stick to the rules (which is fine as neither do criminals but don't think itd all midsummer murders) A little story for you, many years ago now a city type guy moved in with a girl just up from ours, really nice guy big, intelligent , well spoken........................until he had a drink, police were called (2 of them), he went berserk and chinned a copper, the young apprentice copper ran away and matey proceeded to kick 7 bells out of chinned PC, I ended up stopping him as he WAS killing the cop, we ended up fighting (well I was just trying to restrain matey till he calmed down but had to give him a couple of punches) I let him go and he ran off, I had the normal black eye. fat lip and tried to help the copper, both his lungs were punctured and he had a couple of minor broken bones. Matey got caught by a police dog and badly bitten and the cop recovered after a long time. The police were very grateful, my daughters stolen bike was replaced by a police society FOC and I didn't have any problem with untaxxed cars for a very long time!!!! Now fast forward about 4 years, a little scumbag moves in next door and starts trying to terrorise the neighbourhood, he was spoken to myself a few times and stayed well away from my family so all was well. A year or so later the 12 year old girl goes flying past my front door wailing like a banshee followed by scumbag carrying what appeared to be a stick, I open the door to see her little brother panicing, he said John you can't do anything he's got a spear and his knife!!!! and he going to kill Stacey, righto game on, select suitable weapon, Wakisashi is about righ as a Katana seems a bit over the top and set off to find scumbag trying to kick in some old guys door who has let Stacey in his house, an incident occured that was described as a scene from Highlander !!!! He had an Asigai (african stabbing spear used by Masai warriors to kill Lions) which he definately wanted to stick in me, ended up with him losing his spear and knife and being hit with the back(blunt) edge of the sword a few times, put the sword down and he come flying at me like a lunatic and him being put quite gentley to sleep (I didnt even drop him, put him down) now he does have a few scuffs at this time. When he wakes up he screams that he's going to call someone to come down and kill me and rape my Mrs and daughter, now a little switch flicks and I quite calmley inform him he will never get to a phone, a little chase ensues and we end up with him in a position that looks strangely like his neck may break, the next door neighbour remarked 'this is good' to which the Mrs just says'he's going to kill him' (which to be fair was my first thought) by now there are abot 20-30 witness' all screaming go on do it............ Sanity returns and I just drop him. Armed response turn up and arrest him, ive decided to stay elsewhere for the night and all weapons have dissapeared (neighbour took em, got mine back a month or so later) Scumbag is taken to hospital where he remained for quite some time. Turns out he was interfeering with the 12 year old and had been for some time and she said she was going to tell her mum !!!!!!!! Then the fun starts, CID coming up all the time to 'ask me some questions, then arrest me' (nopt one person would give a statement naming me only what scumbag did and a 'man in black') I was working in Spain at the time so just left and went over there till it all died down. Apparently the copper who got rescued got to hear about this and came to the house to say everything had been shelved. My point is help a copper who really should be able to take care of himself and get a reward, help a young girl in trouble and dispose of human refuse and the same force want to arrest me and can you just imagine the charge !!!!!!! One way street and the public are getting fed up with it.

And that's part of the issue isn't it - respect. No one has any anymore so there are no boundaries for a lot of people. There was a time when people were genuinely scared of police - and respected people who were older than themselves. That's a society problem, I don't think anyone has an answer for that. marc_p
Hopefully I'll be moving to the states by the beginning of next year, I'm completely fed up with this country in so many more ways than just useless police. There's not one town or city here that I can say I truly feel safe in, everywhere I go I have chav's shouting rubbish and always paranoid that someone will try and kick my car in just because they can't afford it. I have also never been on a night out where I haven't seen at least 3 fights break out and police and ambulances everywhere. For a comparision, whenever I'm in Austin TX, I feel so safe, everybody appears freindly and I can quite happily wander through downtown in the middle of the night and feel completely safe, I have been for numerous nights out and even when everyones drunk, everyones still so freindly and nice and I have never seen 1 fight break out in all the time I have spent there, the most confrontational experiance I had there was with a V8 guy saying his Mustang was faster than my Supra:d I'm not saying that Austin has no crime, of course it does, but it's much, much less than the UK and I would say is generally provoked crime. Also in the suburbs there is barely any crime, no one will break into a house or car as they know the owner/occupant is well within there right to shoot them. All I can say is that I will be happy to leave this country behind and would be even happier to denounce my citizenship.

marc_p
Eastbourne's still a nice place, Marc. In daytime, yes, although at night I bet there is still a lot of chavs about going around doing unprovoked attacks on people. Oh and I really like Italy, if it wasn't for the language barrier I would happily move there. Actually, if a load of us moved to Italy, that would be perfect, it's in the EU so no VISA problems and we would then have a load of english speaking freinds there, simples, problem solved people, get your bags packed were going to Italy . Strange that cause when I went to the States I saw 2 bodies both just been shot, one in Tampa one in Miramar, now I also know someone who worked in Texas and said thats pretty hot for shootings, still you pays your money you takes your choice, shot in Taxas or stabbed in Liverpool. I just asked the chap I work with, who's lived here all his life, and he's got friends that have moved away, then have come back saying that it's a very nice to be. I wouldn't hesitate to park my car anywhere in the town, and I've only had positive comments from the types you'd think would get hassle from. Don't tar everywhere with the same brush, as you may be surprised. I'm writing this from my hospital bed, where I'm in traction after a minor altercation in the street last week. On the road to recovery though.
