LSD Compatibilty

I've done a search but come up blank, I'm looking either for a straight swap Torsen LSD for a '93 Manual SZ, or alternatively for some info on the presumably far more expensive aftermarket doobries?

Does anyboy know what fits from the Supra/Toyota family or what's good from the tuning catalogues?

Many thanks!

The best aftermarket LSD is the OS Giken unit. They do them for all types of MKIV diff cases. The TRD one is probably the best of the cheaper units. The OE type Torsen is pretty useless o be frank.

A lot of serious race cars are now using them. I found my RWD Skyline transformed by one. I was reluctant to spend the money, but it turned out to be one of the very best things I have done in years :)

Toyota have only used three or four different types of diff for the RWD family, as a rule. Kaaz do very good diffs, I've used a Kaaz and a Tomei diff in the past, both 2 way, and I felt the Kaaz was a much more noticeable diff and thus more predictable. I don't know how much the OS Giken ones are, they look good from what I've heard but the Kaaz ones are in the UK and available for about £650.00. They have a superb aftercare support and all the spare parts to repair the diff if in time it has a part fail on it.

Why would you fit a two way diff to a track car? Just creates corner entry understeer.

Only thing I can think of is the car is used for drift.....sorry for the hi Jack am I right in thinking the early 6 speed diff has the strongest casing ...or which one would you recommend chris, the supra I am building will be used mainly for competition drift and fitted with kazz 2way ,I think they are available for all diff casing types

Thanks mark

If you have the 5 speed gearbox you should currently have a 4.083 final drive ratio, if you swap to a J-Spec TT6 LSD you will end up with a 3.266 final drive ratio meaning you're acceleration will be much slower. If you're not planning on doing a turbo conversion i'd go with the auto TT LSD which is 3.76 final drive. If you are 6 speed (SZ-R?) then the auto TT final drive ratio should be the same as your current one. These are your options without opening up any diffs.

Info taken from Homer's diff calculator.

Hell of a lot of info there guys, cheers.

I reckon I'm going to have a short term and a long term plan: find an Auto TT Diff* ASAP, and start a kitty for a either the Kaaz or OS Giken range. Thinking back to my MkIII I remember the LSD being 'soft' but sufficiently strict for playtime. But I'd really like to build this car right, in the longer term.

Cheers!

*P.S. Can I presume from the above that the NA 5speed LSD will be 4.083, too?
