jonathanc
Curious question really. I know by law you need to have self levelling + headlight washers if you have HID headlights. Did anyone here failed MOT or even stopped by the rozzer for HIDs without washers/self leveller? Also, has anyone experienced their kit blowing up, sorting the ECUs, or even burst in flames? I've got HIDs on several cars with I retrofitted myself but so far never had any problems (although I've only owned them for short time). I've been flashed a few times but that is fixed by levelling the beam myself. I've never had second thoughts (if buying quality kits) but after hearing what some people said I get kinna worried... jonathanc
Answer to question 1. NO Answer to question 2. NO Hope this helps lol thanks it does. To me its not a big deal unless you dazzle the incoming traffic. Just got a bit worried after taking much flaming elsewhere. Other owners of "toboatas" got flamed too btw
Guigsy
Mine have been fine. But I have washers although they are not plumbed in lol. I run with my lamps adjusted to the highest they go and I don't get flawed by people. No issues with mot reliability or police. My kit was from knightracef and one of the best mods I've made
Abz
I have done this mod on nearly every single car I have owned and not had any issues with the plod or MOT time either. A lot of them have been Jap cars and the ones I did do the mods on they have projector lenses so it didn't look out of place. The FTO though badly needed HID's, they are dangerous to drive at night with the standard bulbs! The only issues I have ever had were on the FTO which sometimes the light would not turn on and this was purely down to the kit not being a brilliant build quality, I had to almost wedge the wires a little to get a full connection! Other than that they have been fine on all.
aman00123
Have HID's on mine, no washers and no problems. Passed MOT and no flashing
jonathanc
Thanks for the answers mates At least I don't get flamed for asking this question here So no one had any fire issues as well? ie ECU short circuit and engine compartment burst into flames? Nope, one of my kits had a fuse in it which could stop matters like this, but generally they were all very good. I could only see something like this happening for 2 reasons. 1. Cheap quality builds. 2. Bad wiring connection.

Most proper kits have modern ballasts anyway with proper connections. Just curious, do you guys buy your kits from eBay or from companies like HIDS4U? Kirk
I bought a phillips HID kit, comes with a 2 year warranty which is always useful!

The one for the Supra was off KnightRacer which was much better quality. I'd try and get it off a company which supplies for that specific model, or has experience with the new TT. Hmm, can't really find one specific to my make/model. I am looking at this one : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370237118597&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT Seems pretty decent? Seems a fairly reputable seller, plus seems to mainly deal in these. "With built in micro-processors, Canbus-Pro boasts the most advanced, sophisticated mid slim digital ballasts that are compatible with the latest smart canbus systems" If that is true, then you can't go wrong with that. Though I'd request to see actual pictures of the ballasts and connectors.
