MOT question

I've bought a car recently from a local garage and due to some confusion he MOTed the car using different reg (The car had private plate on it and the local garage only found out last minute that the private plate is staying on car). MOt was done at the local garage.

The V5 reg matches the plates on the car currently so its confirmed that the reg is right. I might be p.x this car off but wondering if this could cause a big issue? The local garage was telling me I either had to do a new MOT or go to the DVLA to have this rectified...

I was too busy all the while so forgot about that until now.

Also, shouldn't the garage which sold me the car do the MOT for free? He is charging me for another MOT which I think its his mistake?

sorry if ive got this wrong but it shouldnt matter just ask the dvla to take the private plate off and put the old plate back on. i might be wrong but shouldnt matter should it ?

There's no guarantee that the other registration number would be re issued and this would cost £60 iirc. Would be far simpler to re MOT yourself.

I would go back to the garage you bought it from and insist they sort it for you free of charge.

Technically they have sold you a car without a valid MOT and you could be in a world of pain if you were given a "producer" by plod.

well the garage I've bought it from wants to charge me for MOT... I've tried calling him but he won't answer my calls... I'm going to p/x this car tomorrow hopefully not much problems.

Is there anyway I can get back at the garage though for selling me a car without valid MOT? Last time I spoke to him about it he said I need to pay for new MOT.

well I was told that I can either get a brand new MOT or contact DVLA to get this problem rectified.

I presume since this matter could be rectified by DVLA the dealer I am p/xing my car against could sort that themselves? Basically what happened was the local garage bought the car from a trader auction. The auction people initally told him that the private plate is going off so he MOTed the car with original plates. After he done that he found out the private plate is staying...
