You have to remove enough tubing to see the turbine, and give them a spin. Hybrids will feel more massive (i.e. harder to spin because they are steel rather than ceramic) than j-speck stock. That's about as much as you can do as a layperson. I doubt you can tell what 'stage' or type of hybrid they are without stripping them down and knowing what you are looking for. I doubt I could tell the difference between UK spec steelies and hybrids either, just by spinning the turbine.

So, yes, you can fit them and not tell your insurance company :D

If its a J-spec and full TT boost doesn't arrive till about 4k at the earliest then I would suggest it has hybrids. 3.5 to 3.8k should be ceramics.

Though if there are Ignition Timing devices and uprated cams these could throw off these rough figures.

And of course bigger injectors. UK spec ones are Lavender in colour I believe.

mine have :D cause i fitted them !

Sometimes the hybrids have a plate stamped on them saying the maker etc and thats a giveaway.. turbo technics normally do this. Of course, this is a giveaway to the insurance so im lucky in that they didnt fit one to mine :D
