RobD Posted March 21, 2011 Share Posted March 21, 2011 A cat is used to catch all the harmful gases that comes out of your engine (co2 etc), doing this it makes the exhaust very restrictive, I.E doesn't let gases through as easily as a car fitted without a cat! Decating will help the exhaust gases flow out of the engine more freely and help your turbo's boost higher, obviously if you try to raise your turbo's boost with the cats still in you'll have a load of blown gases hitting a brick wall in effect, which will cause damage to your turbo's when the blown gas is forced back through the turbo trying to escape! They reduce harmful exhaust emissions (hooray!) but because they create a restriction in the exhaust pipework, they also reduce power a bit (boo!).
