The-Plethora
Mods please rename if you can think of a better title. Sods law, the car is pretty much there and mechanically sound but after a rather interesting battle with an EVOVII on the M4 I have developed a bit of a clunk. This ONLY happens when I turn right or go round a roundabout, never left. I had it down as being the exhaust but it all looks fine, all hangers are in place and no movement. I checked the heatsheild and that also looks fine and does not move at all. I had someone stand outside the car and did a quick turn and they think it sounds like one of the wheels, I took them off last night and checked them over and other than one caliper being a bit seized which I will free later I can't see anything untoward. Does anyone have any ideas what else could possibly be causing it? its a 'clunk', 'clunk', 'clunk' noise. I have a trip for work to go on tomorrow so I need ideas . And for the what does this do part of the thread, I found this pipe in the passenger side wheel well, it looks like it should be connected to something but doesnt quite reach, is this just a drainage tube?. Nic
Sub frame or suspension arm bolts need torquing up.
The-Plethora
Could it be anything else? Dr_Jekyl and Nevis tightened them up only a few weeks back, when I had the wheels off I checked the disks, removed the pads etc but could not see anything dodgy. Might swing it to Pauls as I would only be working 14 miles away, if I can get there.
Dnk
Have you un seized the caliper yet ? is the noise still there ?
fastcar
i had i clunk like your described. search for everything and tighten all subframe bolts up but was still there. in the end i was under the car doing an oil change and then noticed that the front stablizer bar was snapped in two. changed that no more clunk and sorted at my handleing problems. They were'nt OEM stablizer they were Tanabe sustec ones!
kjgreen3
Yes as already mentioned check the front ARB and drop links for break(s) and/or play. One of our members IIRC had one snap inside the mounting brackets so it wasnt visible. Best best visual inspection then undo one of the drop links and see if you can twist the ARB. 15 minute job what with taking one of the front wheels off, which you will be doing if you are unseizing a caliper. I had a worn ball joint in my off side drop link on my suzuki vitara and it made the same clunking sound when turning right, sometimes juddering when turning near full lock as well. The-Plethora
Had all four wheels off tonight and all seemed good, freed the stuck one so it's not that but got rid of an irritating screech which was one of the spring clips on the pads had come out of its little whole, copper greased it and that part seems well but yep still getting the clunk. I will take it very slowly but wont be far from Whifbitz this week so will see if they can make anything of it, nothing obvious seems visible to be. I will update this thread when I find out in case it helps someone else. Cant say I have noticed any problems with handling or anything though, I have heard these drop links are quite prices so fingers crossed its not those
kjgreen3
A single drop link (recommend you change both!) for the supra was cheaper than a single one for the suzuki! I got quoted £50 for ONE on the suzuki but for TWO on the supra came to ~£40 but that was in 2009 so i would expect around ~£50 for two these days what with the VAT hike. Mr T or Keron (although it may be second hand) may be your best bet unless Whifbitz do a good price. Best to wait until Paul (if it's going to Whifbitz) diagnoses the fault as it may not be what has been suggested. Btw I found a two drop links for the suzuki for £20 on EBAY as if i was going to spend £50 on one! Hope its a cheap fix either way, like you said please update this thread once the fault has been diagnosed/rectified as its useful info to other members. dr_jekyll
only done the rear frame bolts dude as you had knocking at the back , can go over the front frame bolts for you next time your down this way
The-Plethora
Slightly embarrasing but.... Whifbitz tightened up the front subframe bolts a bit which made a small improvement but basically it turned out to be nothing more than the passenger side brake sheild thing [OOPS][/OOPS]. I could have sworn I bent them back when I had the wheels off, oh well good and bad but they gave the car a bit of a once over as well so nothing major thankfully. Why would it happen though? surely the shield moves with the disc assemebly. One thing sorted at least, anyone got any idea about that pipe in the first post?. nevins
Glad its sorted mate as craig said we only tightened the front sub frame bolts, have you had the pulley done now.
The-Plethora
Yeah the pulley has been changed now, hopefully a month or so without hundreds to pay out fixing things, cant be much more to replace on it now Seems I could do with a new tensioner though at some point as its either that or the power steering pulley that is causing the irritating noise when in park or slowly moving forwards. The-Plethora
Reckon there i anything serviceable on those? Could I remove the PS pulley and clean it up or something or do you think the bearings are fecked?
