heckler
Why when we have a base in Gibraltar ! At a guess the cost of moving the jets, ground crew and support elements. Just cheaper to fly the jets out of the UK.

Dave
i guess the oil is a factor, but you can guess what gadaffi will do to those who have opposed him if he got the chance, we cant stand back and watch that happen.and the US hasent deployed any jets yet just tomohawks and AWACs .the french are so far the major player with 20 jets on CAP .cant understand why the germans didnt vote though.perhaps they didnt want to be in the air with the RAF boys . jagman
I would guess the SAS are already on the ground , and Gadaffi would be a target as this would terminate things quickly ! Best he keeps moving as they will have laser designators !! They would have learnt lessons from chasing Saddam around ,It don't pay to poke the Bear !! j_jza80
Why when we have a base in Gibraltar ! They're probably also trying to prove a point. Even with our reduced capabilities, we're still able to defend our interests, anywhere. Hopefully Argentina are paying attention
jagman
" Pressed about his assertion that Col Gaddafi was "not on a targeting list", Vice Adm Gortney said: "If he happens to be in a place, if he's inspecting a surface-to-air missile site, we don't have any idea that he's there or not, then yeah, but no, we're not targeting his residence this time." Ha,ha, yeah right!!! bet his neighbours are not too happy right now!

Hopefully Argentina are paying attention If they take off from Gib, then they have more fuel on board over the target ie they can go around and have another go or select another target and still have fuel to get back to a base . I agree with you, as do the MOD which is why the jets have now been moved. For a fast response, flying from a uk base is perfectly viable. Uk and us tankers operating in the area will allow for plenty of fuel in the airspace. Just out of interest, the US tankers are capable of both methods of in flight refuelling. Are the UK ones?
