In all honesty you would have to be blind not to see it coming ;)

Good news for the UK - the £1bn oil contract from 2004 will avoid nationalisation. Might help keep petrol prices down a bit once the dust settles.

To be honest, Gadhafi has been on the way out from the moment he threatened nationalisation of oil companies in 2009. No way was the rest of the western world going to stand by and let Libya decide what to do with its own oil.

It's ok we can deploy an air craft carrier to secure air supremacy before we send ground troops in......oh wait we don't have any!!? It's OK at least we can effect ground support with our harriers for the troops.....oh wait we don't have any.

Well at least we have 60 typhoons that can sit at 30,000 ft watching the chaos.

The last thing our poor overstretched military needs is another theatre of war, especially with another Arab state. This is going to go pete tong and pretty quickly.

Nice one..................I wonder who will help us this time!

We really needed this didnt we. I wonder what oil rights we get when its over?

Apparently the French are going to assist!! That's a joke, what that means is they will say they are going to help and then leave it all to us. Once were there dealing with Libya why don't we just take over Africa. Rebuild the empire and all that.

We can barely operate in Afghan, theres no cash or resources to carry out no fly zone ops, I doubt the Cypriats will be overjoyed at flights from there either. Its all a big mess and the government should never have committed to it.

..but...but...there are oil reserves people that need liberating.

Sod the oil and liberation. Do it just to get Kate and Will off the TV.

On a serious note, wars are good for the economy.... ours anyway. Why not invade Iran too?

I think the government are stupid to cut expenditure on the military... in my opinion (which is worth nothing) it would have been more sensible simlpy saying they will only award contracts to UK based companies, at least that way the money is being reinvested back into the UK.

I think we need to put it into perspective here. That's a BBC article and they've spent all week talking about 'Chernobyl round two' in Japan - when radiation levels are the same as they are in Rome (Italian authorities tested the levels to make a decision on their nationals in Tokyo).

The UK and America weren't the only countries that voted for a no fly zone.

True. France stepped up despite not doing anything about previous uprisings of late. This is probably because they are (IIRC) the second largest consumer of Libyan oil.

"The UK and America weren't the only countries that voted for a no fly zone."

No everyone wants their oil

The Italians will be worried about any joint venture , as they have signed contracts with Gadaffi worth Billions , for various infrastructure projects like telecoms , and they are the major consumer of Libyan oil and Gas

If the UK/US/FRANCE get in first to secure the oil ,(I mean people) then they will rebuild , and secure contracts - read Halliburton doing a deal with the US govt again !!

All paid for by pumping the oil out (in the best interests of the people) whilst a new democratic govt is formed .

should take a few years to arrange a nice Libyan govt , so crank up the pumps, and let the plunder commence

Puts the Italians in a spot as their nutter in charge is best mates with Gadaffi ,,,not for long methinks ..as they will want to join the plunder too

Libya produces only about 2 percent of the world's oil.

With most of the civilised world supporting the rebels and the very near prospect of the Libyan regime winning the war and being totally isolated afterwards the area would become a much more unstable place with Gaddafi in charge.

Probably not too dissimilar to turning the clock back 20 years with them actively supporting terrorism.
