mellonman
Hi just wondered if there really was a point going for a high speck cam belt? or is it a generic one is just as good gates racing? hks greddy toyota blue print im sure there are many others these are just what come to my head what is the bonus for going expensive
chrispot
I would get a std one of good quality like the gates rather than Toyota as will be cheaper, I think the only time i would run a hi spec belt if i had non std cams in. gates are oem belt manufacturers for many makers i believe
Swampy442
Its up to you as its your cash but a Toyota one will be perfectly fine.
Geo
All the branded ones are just the same, Except they have been asked by there respected Brands to be coloured differently and have there logo stamped on it. A genuine OEM Toyota one is just fine, unless your a brand whore?? Im running a OEM Toyota one on my single build.
mellonman
its all good to know i will just get a gates kit ,but just for other people who see the thread hks and greddy have no more strength or last longer?
Chris Wilson
The only time I would run a Kevlar reinforced belt is on an RB26 where belt stretch is an issue, and access to the manual adjuster involves removing the rad and the crank damper. I modded my engine to allow external adjustment with no dismantling, but customer cars get Kevlar belts. As the 2JZ has a hydraulic tensioner manual adjustment is not required, so any well known brand belt is fine, anything else is really a waste of money. Markie
Whats the ball park figure I am looking at for a Toyota Genuine one? £80? As I know some of the dealerships I have tried before had different pricing oddly enough.
Scooter
£30ish for the cambelt.......the £80 might have been for the fan/aux belt?
Markie
Can just the cam belt be changed or does others have to be done at the same time? Well not have to but good practice to?
Scooter
The aux belt has to come off to get to the cambelt but it's easy to do so the old one can be put back on easily and changed at a later date if it's still in good condition.
