Iv looked into using other software, but they all seem just as crap as iTunes is.
ScottC
I'm sure I read on the Apple website just last night explaining how you can now back up/restore your media from your ipod/phone/ipad *goes of to check*

Swampy442
I used Tuneaid, cost 10 buck IIRC, all you do is use it to copy all the stuff off your iPhone into a folder, add said music to iTunes, sync it, job done

AlexJames
Update for you.... I decided to bite the bullet and let it wipe the phone and start again..... turns out it doesn't work like that any more!!! Fresh Windows install with iTunes... as soon as I did a sync, it sync(ed)!? the computer to the iPhone, and not the other way around! Thats a first! iTunes doing something sensible!
