Havard
My dad has fallen in love with a silver E Class E320D. It's got 110,000 Miles, no service history, rust beginning, to surface on most panels and wheel arches. The car seems mechanically sound no evidence of smoke, gunk in the oil or accident damage but I remember some comments on here about them being rust boxes. I only had a quick 10 min look around it today and told my dad to walk away as I would rather him pay a bit more for a car in better bodywork condition. This car is being sold by a trader who has had it for a month. Says some old bloke lost his licence and sold it to him.... Even though this guy is a trader he is pretty much selling it as a private sale with a sold as seen attitude. The car is cheap at £2150 but it needs 3 tyres soon and it will be expensive if anything goes wrong. My dad wants to drive it for a year and then get a bit of money back but accepts it won't be much. The dealer is saying he'll sort the rust and get it MOT'd. Your opinions would be appreciated as I am trying to persuade him that there are plenty more fish in the sea..!! H. garethr
The W210 E-class - the car that ruined a reputation built up over decades. Based on what I read on the Merc forums when I had a w202 C230K, I wouldn't go near a W210.
Chris Wilson
Unreliable rot boxes. Mercedes have gone downhill since the late eighties. The W210 is a particularly horrible example of all that went wrong.
Bobbeh
^ Agree with this sentiment. Late 80's - mid 90's were the best models.
Chris Wilson
The 1920's and 30's were pretty cool

Although I knew that you had made some comments before. I have told my dad to leave it and look for something else. He rang me earlier to say the "dealer" had found some previous service history by contacting Mercedes. H.
