Just the sight of wiring looms fills me with horror, it's an irrational thing, but can't help it.

My previous car needed to have the ECU loom rewired. I bought several reels of automotive cable etc, then thought 'sod this' and sold the whole car. :D

I'm sure that several digital pics during the dismantling would be very useful come re-connecting time. Still, I get shivers just thinking of reconnecting all this crap

Maybe I'd feel different if my fingers were like Chopin's, but automotive electrician I certainly could never be :thumbdown

It looks worse than what it really is becuase all the loom is folded into the bay makes even me shiver when i look at it :)..and i got mits like a irishmans shovel..but once it is all sat out.it really does just fall back into place :).

you don't open the AirCon pipes, you just undo the bolts holding the compressor to the engine and move the compressor forward near the battery position and tie it with a big tie-wrap or steel wire , it'll will move easy because it has long flexable pipes ... you do the same with the PS pump ... I did my engine many times never had to add AC gas or PS fluid.

Tonight I have started removing my blown engine. I can't get the AirCon pump off though. I have undone the PS pump and moved it. I've undone the AirCon compressor but there seems to be no way it will come off its rear mounting shaft (The threaded one with a 14mm nut). There is not enough room to slide the pump sideways and off the shaft because the 90 degree bends where the hoses go into the compressor are in the way.

when do you think you might have the car back on the road Jake?

You've done pretty well to pick up a replacement vvti engine already! good luck

Thanks mate. I'm only going to do a couple of hours a day on it after work. Once the lump is out I can take my time transferring bits from the old engine to the replacement one (the 'new' one has nothing exhaust-side, no turbos, no manifold, etc etc. I expect it'll take me a while to get all the vacuum pipework right too.

To be honest I'm quite enjoying it so far. It certainly makes a change from my day job.

Luckily I still have my other Supra to use in the meantime.
