Out of curiosity - A sleep question

How much sleep would you say you get, on average?

Last night, due to a crying baby, I had about 3 hours of broken sleep and today I'm like this

I think I'm quite lucky as I normally have about 6-7 hours, which probably isn't bad.

How about you?

On early shift I get around 6-7hrs per night on average. On backshift I will generally get 7-9hrs of sleep. I have the opportunity to get 9-10 hours on backshift but I generally sit up a bit later and watch some TV.

I feel pretty good with 8-10 hours sleep, any less than 8 for a few days on end catches up with me and I feel a little tired. Early shift I am like a zombie by this time in the week, can't wait for a lie in on Saturday.

How long does it take for a baby to grow out of nightly crying and calling?

I get around 8-10 hours a day on a good day... but I'm young!

On a bad day, I will get as little as 5 hours sleep. But that only happens when I've got a lot on my mind.

I think it depends on the baby - they go through growth spurts and stuff don't they...I'd like to point out the baby isn't mine - a friend is staying with me and it's putting me right off reproducing. :D

on sunday nights I never sleep well for some unknown reason, maybe 3 hours. Mondays are a nightmare.

Do you sleep in on a Saturday/Sunday? I read something ages ago that said you should keep your sleeping pattern as much as possible even at the weekends.

My body clock assures that I do just that: I get up early-ish during the week, and tend to wake up fairly early at the weekends. I'm wide awake by 8am on a Sat/Sun morning.

I'm usually the same - unless I go out somewhere. Then I can stay up all night on Sat/Sun morning and feel wide awake during the early hours.

Are you scared of babies too?

In all seriousness, I have no idea how people cope.

I was a bit scared of babies -for about 41 years.

Then he arrived.

Now I'm not.

And screaming? Certainly other people's would be infinitely harder to deal with or accept, but as all proud baby manufacturers know...it's genuinely different when they're your own.

You can beat them and everything and not feel bad.

I'll keep that in mind. :) I need to do so much before I have kids.

What screaming?

Iris sleeps from 9pm till 9-10am every single night/morning. We have been up with her 2 nights in total since her birth, and even at that we still managed 4-5 hours sleep :D

I don't know what some people moan about, it's a doddle :innocent:

Have a read of the attached, pretty interesting.

And yes, basically your bed should be for sleeping in a regular pattern, you shouldn't read in bed or watch TV, should just be "go to bed, sleep" (pretty boring though :eyebrows: ).
