RobSheffield
I am currently being very nostalgic and purchased a Commadore 64 and intellivision console off ebay. I am looking for a period TV to use. I recall we had an old Matsui with no remote (you had to push buttons on it) from early 1980. Was only about a 14" and it was a dedicated C64 monitor. Any ideas where i could find out the likely model series? Does anyone know if the C64 and intellivison should plug into a normal Plasma RF input? Hopefully it wont damage either console or TV! mawby
Matsui was an own brand of DSG (Curry's, Dixons etc) and having worked there many years ago I'd be surprised if any from 1980 are still working! I've got a 14" Goodmans in the loft doing nothing - I can even bin the remote to make it more realistic if you want! I've got a 14" Panasonic up there too but I saved up for ages when I was a kid to buy that so it might have to stay even if it never gets used again! pistonbroke
It'll work on the plasma using the RF input.....picture will look aweful though. The low resolution of older TV's smoothed out jaggies, whereas your HD plasma will highlight every diagonal staircase.
RobSheffield
Yeah i knew it was part of Currys. I think you may be right about the not working part. I may just get a modern 10" locally and be done with it. Then it wont matter if ikts damaged or anything and will be very portable.
Havard
We had a perfectly good one that we threw out last year. I mean, who would want an old 14" box of a TV these days? Oh..!! H.
Scott
I have one for out the back when the spa is in use As already said, it will work with larger TV's but it looks shocking. I plugged in a PS1 not so long ago, to have a go with tomb raider, and it was ridiculous.
RedM
Rob, I had the official Commodore monitor. Jealous?
RobSheffield
Yeah i think its gonna have to be a 10-14". No reason it wouldnt work with an LCD screen of that kinda size is there? Rob, I had the official Commodore monitor. Jealous?
RedM
...and it still works. Might see if I can buy it all back of my grandfather and play Impossible Mission again.

Again they are setup in an LCD fashion though, rather than the analogue tube design, so they will be VERY pixelated but it won't show up as much as a larger screen. Hmm, i may stick with a cheap 10" CRT
Scott
Hmm, i may stick with a cheap 10" CRT Is space the constraint? If going with a CRT you could go up as high as 20", with it still looking reasonable (for what it is of course).

Scott
To some extent. Also, for me to faff about with and indulge in some retro gaming im going to get all Scottish and not spend too much I'm sure if you look around the right papers etc you would easily pick one up for free. I'm dying to get rid of my 29" CRT sony that is upstairs and replace it with a 50" plasma, it's going to be hell trying to shift it when the time comes though lol. Be careful not to fall into the ebay trap. I have £100s worth of consoles etc upstairs. I would hate to total up what I have spent on retro-gaming. A snes, a nes, a master system, a megadrive, an Amiga, a +2 ZX and a C64 all around a 29" tv did cross my mind.
RobSheffield
Yeah we had a SNES, but im not so bothered. The rest of them im not bothered about cos iv never had one. Its only these 2, and i know how awful the games are too

Scooter
I absolutely loved Elite on my C64........used to have to put 2 or 3 books on top of the cassette player to get any of the tapes to load.....ah the good (bad!) old days
