Tricky-Ricky
Bugger! just been to do some maintenance on the pond, as we don't run the filtration over winter (semi natural system) and even though the water is pretty murky as the algae is starting to form, i just can seem to see any, did a quick whip around with the net and all i could turn up was one of the big ghost's and a couple of goldfish, I am in the process of draining it down, but it will take a while, 14'x12' and 5' deep, but its looking highly likely that some thieving scumbag has netted them out in the dead of night:diablo: i knew i should have put up the security camera i had laying about, but our garden is pretty well fenced for the cats and is not easily accessible anyway, pretty pissed off as although there wasn't anything special in there, we had had them for about twenty years, and they where quite big and part of the pet family. Got to check now and find out if they where insured on the household policy and report to the law, not that they will do anything:(

supra-mike1984
Yep sound like a heron or cormorant to me. Happened with some of my Japanese carp a few years ago, caught a heron in the act the lil sh*t!
Tricky-Ricky
It wont be a Heron, just don't get them in my area, and there are to many gulls, and not its not them either, we are talking fish of 10 to 15lbs and an average of 14" long, so unless the Heron is the incredible hulk of the avian world. Guigsy
Died then decomposed My indoor tank a fish can die overnight and some of the scavengers finish it off before I notice! In a pond it can be the same I'm sure.

Sorry to hear about the Koi, is sad, most that do this kinda thing don't think about the fact that even though its a fish or whatever animal, its still a "pet". :
marbleapple
Why only steal some and not all. I think it is a hungry winter animal or natural causes. As opposed to a bloke sneaking into your fenced garden to steal a few of them.

merckx
Why only steal some and not all. A thief may have been disturbed, only took the valuable ones, coudn't carry them all etc etc.

Tyson
sounds like an opportunist thief and as he said there was algae forming so maybe he thought he had them all. You should install sentry guys, just remember to turn them off when you go into the garden. lol
