VIL
Hi Can anyone advise. I have just got a new car that I am going to put my private plate on. However the plate thats on there at the moment a friend of mine wants to buy off me. I have looked at the V5 and it states on the front under 'Special Notes' that it has a 'Non-transferable registration mark'. Is there any way that I can take ownership of the plate and sell it on? Any advice would be appreciated.
garethr
In a word, no. http://dvlaguide.co.uk/index.php/dvlaguide/register_an_old_vehicle/ In 1990 rules were introduced which allowed vehicles to claim back their original mark, on a non-transferable basis. This means that you will not be able to transfer it or put it onto retention at a later date.
