The-Plethora
The noise I heard at low speeds that I had down as the power steering pulley seems to actually be the crank, it has got a little worse lately. Staying away tonight so have to take things a little slow the 40 or so miles home. Are there any alternatives to the stock toyota pulley? I seem to recall this costs aound £260 and then I would need to fit it. Pic below of the (red) tippex test, it has seperated clearly. Having a quick browse for e.g... http://www.toxicspeedshop.com/toyota-supra-mk4-lightweight-crank-pulley-1479-p.asp Any reason not to look into these? Am I right in thinking the stock one is part metal and part rubber (as it seperates) this replacement is all aluminium, I am guessing there is a good reason Toyota chose that. Had a look at Whifbitz but seems to only be the idler pulleys. If anyone close to Bristol can recommend somewhere to swap it out then please let me know, I can even shout "feel the burn" when you are on the breaker bar if you like as I don't have the tools for the job . Edit: is this the same part for the GS300? is there a "supra tax" on them like onb brake discs or can I quote for a GS300 one and get it cheaper? keron
the only ones i would trust are the toyota ones or the ati one...ati one is more expensive though so oem is the best option tbh....
RobSheffield
Boostlogic do one, so do ATI. Ebay and cheapo ones are not recomended at all.

Boostlogic ones were discontinued iirc... all the new hks ones etc are the same as the ati ones too..just a different lable and well overpriced! Scott
Surprised noone has mentioned the Titan pulley. That is the one that has been recommended to me. Similar price to stock too, although delivery and any taxes will need to go on top.

nevins
Jesus mate, that has moved round quite a bit from when we marked it earlier. I would go with a genuine oem one if your not looking to spend a large amount.

dr_jekyll
thats moved alot bud id avoid using that as much as possible tbh
edge
Get an oem one if you don't want to spend too much. It will probably be an absolute pig to get off aswel. I can recommend a local garage and toyota specialist if you need one. I used jeff brown ltd on the a38 behind the petrol station (think it's a BP garage) Very good rates and top workmanship. Normally do stuff myself but the other halfs car needed new rear brake lines, real pig of a job.
The-Plethora
Are the stock ones still around £260ish? I will see if any of the traders can source one a bit cheaper if not. I will see what tools are lurking and my dads "garage 'o' plenty". Like you say I don't really want to drive it far.
Scott
Titan crank is £285, stock is £260 from Paul I think. Best my local Mr T could do was £275.
The-Plethora
Jeez! just seen a post from Paul, these are not cheap! "Crank pulley £265.12 inc VAT, these retail at £331.39! Fanbelt £31.20 inc VAT Delivery £10.80 inc VAT" Is there anything else I need? fanbelt makes sense to change, does the crank pulley come with a bolt or can I get hold of a new one? or are they made of equally expensive Toyota unobtainium? Only just getting over the suspension swapout financially
paulj1
They do seem expensive but just thing how much not replacing it could be if it separates completely I got mine off of Paul Whiffin mate as he was cheapest and the service was top notch too, They're not too difficult to do just need big torque wrench though as they are tight
The-Plethora
Did Paul replace it for you also? Sent him a PM but he is probably fed up of doing car stuff today and is probably home with a steak & ale pie by now.
Nic
The crank pulley plays a very important role - click -> Crank Pulley - I would replace with an OEM Toyota pulley as they are properly weighted and balanced.
paulj1
No matey mate and me did it took couple hours and some swearing though lol
David P
It is unwise to drive it in that state, should that come off you could be in need of another bonnet.
bigbloodyturbo
i wouldn't drive it like that bud, mine went last year and it looked like that. It squeeked when you gave it some pedal and would move everytime you even started the engine. I nursed it to work one day and it popped off when i started it, found it resting on my undertray. Luckily the belt jumped onto the inner ring of the pulley and it carried on running, i can only imagine what damage it would do if it came off at 6k. Whifbitz is the cheapest btw. The-Plethora
Yeah to be fair Paul's prices on the official part are very fair and a decent saving. Managed to get tomorrow off work to get them to look at it, how am I getting it there? Not figured that part out yet. Is there any mileage in replacing the other pulleys? I can see the logic in getting the propper stock crank pulley as it is weighted properly. The other pulleys seem to just be cast, presumably getting aftermarkets its ok on those? Rob_Mitchell
i have a boostlogic one on my build, hopefully it will be ok
Dnk
Changing the other pulleys for billet type is fine, I would only use the o/e crank pulley though as i like to stick with what i know has worked for over 120,000 miles
Dnk
It is unwise to drive it in that state, should that come off you could be in need of another bonnet. Another member on here had their crank pulley go and it smashed the bottom of the oil pump, lots of work to put that right.
Purity14
Dont drive it like that at all. I would use it to pull it across the road or into your garage. But I would not drive any distance in it. If you are stranded - call your recovery service.
The-Plethora
Pish pash made it down ok, went slow and kept constant speed. A bit daft but when you have as much on your credit cards as I do a big bill wont make much difference, wouldnt like to do that again though. Sat in one of the 23 or so garden centres near pauls having a bun at the moment so can't see how many blokes are hanging from the breaker, fingers crossed.
