Guest Andy Bird
Hi all A couple of things since fitting a new exhaust (Cat back) I am getting a vibration at high revs. Can feel it through the floor on the passenger side, I have played with the mounts but cannot physically see anywhere it could be rubbing as it clears pretty well its not speed specific it seems to be at high revs when the 2nd ports?, timing changes? maybe a coincidence with the exhaust. The other thing is that the gearbox whines 1, 2, 3 then quietens down when warmer. shifts fine changes the oil today to Syntrax and put 2-2 1/2 litres of oil no change at all. any ideas? thanks

Neil-NA
Did you fit a stock exhaust? a lot of w58 boxes whine a bit, mine does it, aslong as gear changes are smooth and it doesn't POP out of gear I wouldn't worry.
Nic
The vibration could be from the exhaust heat shields.
Guest Andy Bird
Its not got an exhaust to box bracket but clears by some way. Its a vibration and not a rattle so dont think its heat shields. Its a standard box easy in gear and doesnt pop out. How many litres of oil does a na box take?
Keefred
Mine was rattling / vibrating something terrible, sitting in traffic and when at higher revs, I bought new rubbers etc but when it was being serviced the bloke found the gearbox to exhaust bracket had broken so he welded it back up. No more rattles for about a week until it broke again. I bought a new one 17506-46180 was the one for my 94 auto N/a, can't remember how much, reckon less than £20, haven't actually had a look yet to see what other bits are needed, looks like there must be some sort of clamp to go round the pipe or something. Guest Andy Bird
So there should be a bracket from exhaust to box? Ive not got this unless its supposed to be on the mid pipe.and ive not seen it?

There is on the stock exhaust, if you have an aftermarket exhaust it may not. You really need to get the car in the air and check to find what is loose, it may be a hanger that has come off or one of the heat shields is vibrating.
