Guest Jürgen
Hallo! I've got a problem! I want to change the timing belt of my supra. But I don't get off the bolt of the crankshaft pulley.I think that the belt was replaced. But I don't now when. My guess is that the screw was set in with loctite. I did a lot of things to get the screw out.But nothing helps. Greeting Jürgen
dude
It is not loctited it is just very tight, you will need to lock the engine and use a long bar and 22mm socket or if your feeling brave use the starter method, just mind your fingers/arm as they will break a lot easier than the pulley nut. Guest Jürgen
I took a long bar.But nothing happend.Only the bar was crooked. And the thing with the starter I did too.No chance. The only thing I can do is to make the screw hot. Greeting Jürgen
dude
If you make the screw hot you will need a new pulley and prob crank seal, I have never failed to undo one, lock the engine and find someone stronger or start taking steroids!!!!! how long is your bar?? Lude
If you make the screw hot you will need a new pulley and prob crank seal, I have never failed to undo one, lock the engine and find someone stronger or start taking steroids!!!!! how long is your bar?? haha yea a quick jab then try lol yea just get the longest bar you can on it and thatl help. i remember i mate removed locking nuts from an old car before with a breaker bar was about 1.5 metres long lol
Guest Jürgen
The screw and the seal I want make new,if the old srew is away. Yesterday I locked the crankshaft at the gearbox. Than I took a torque key and a pipe. Both were 2,00 metres long. After my try the torque key was crooked. Greeting Jürgen
dr_jekyll
they can be verry subborne mate. persistance is the key not heat , the last time i changed one i had the bonnet off, a long scaffold pole and i was standing on top of my van basicly hanging on the bar before she let go

Rob
Out of interest, how did you lock the engine at the gearbox?
Guest Jürgen
I blocked the fly wheel. Where do you lock the engine? Greeting Jürgen
dr_jekyll
there are 2 threaded holes on the crank pulley , you can bold a y shaped stopper to the pully to get a good lock
Swampy442
Ive used air tools before and never failed to get the bolt out.
dude
Can you borrow a proper breaker bar and a 22mm impact hex socket, if you have a dual mass flywheel the crank will still be moving on the damper in it and you are losing a lot of mechanical advantage, there are tools that lock the bottom pulley, this is a better way of doing it. Guest Jürgen
I took air tools for the screw. But she didn't get out.
dude
If you could get a 3/4 or 1" nut gun on the front it would but you would need the AC rad out and you must use an Impact socket.
Attero
I just cracked the bolt and bought a new one.
Guest Jürgen
How did you crack the bolt and get the rest of the bolt out of the cranckshaft?
Scott
How did you crack the bolt and get the rest of the bolt out of the cranckshaft? With the head off of the bolt the tension on it will be gone. Once the pulley wheel is removed you could probably turn it with pliars. A stud remover would be handy though
Guest 7w34k
When long bars, starter method, and regular impact wrenches failed I ended up calling out a company that changes tires on commercial trucks. The guy had to use an pneumatic impact wrench the size of my arm to get it off.
Guest Jürgen
I can get truck air tool and torque key of my company. I will try it with these things.
CanisLupus
Hey Jürgen, i did it with a strong(around 400nm maximum) electric Impact wrench(Schlagschrauber). You'll have to get out the AC Rad and Water Rad and then let the wrench do the work. I tried several hours with bars and other things(even snapped my torque wrench with trying) then got the Impact wrench and in 20seconds off it went... Cheers from Krefeld
Guest Jürgen
I will try at the weekend. I hope it will go.
Guest Jürgen
Hallo! Today I did it.With a truck torque key.800 nm maximum. At 600 nm the srew loose. Thanks for your help! Greeting Jürgen
Chris Wilson
Glad you got it off, sometimes they seize up a bit and can be really hard to break free. Sometimes people use Loctite AND tighten them too much, then they can be impossible without heat.
Guest Jürgen
I'm so happy. Now I can drive without fear. Greeting Jürgen
