JS2004
I am having a think about buying some facelift lights for the LED conversion or sticking with pre-facelift and having the conversion done on those. I think the pre-facelift look better on a black car but I have not seen too many clear views of facelift ones on a black car. Anyone got a comparison photo like the ones attached? As an added brucey bonus if anyone has the LED conversion done on pre-facelift lights it would be very nice to see so I can get more of an idea of how it will look.. Ive been looking at the stuff Heckler makes and the more I look the more I want =)
KamaSupra
I've got a pic of my black Supra with one side pre-facelift and other side facelift, I'll see if I can find it
JS2004
Excellent - will be a good comparison. Im going to be going for the full LEDs too if I can sneek it past the missus as one of those "essential items to enhance road safety".. think it will wash.. hopefully. jackso11
tint them black, then it doesn't matter
JS2004
Toyed with that idea of tinting them but I like the rear light look a bit too much (the Jspec arrangement in particular) as I think its one of the signature parts of the Supra going to leave them un-tinted but definitely want the LEDs in there whilst retaining the OEM look. j_jza80
I'd say facelifts. You could always spray the grey part in black. However, Heckler did some stunning LED lights for that big restoration job car. Normally I hate LEDs, but they were special

Suprab1
I much prefer the look of the pre facelift rear lights. I have never seen a set with the grey part black though.
pistol pete
sorry but i prefer pre face lift.. but each to their own.. we all are different
Scott
I much prefer pre-facelift on a black car. The colour scheme is far better that way.
JS2004
The 2nd pic is ideal for what I was after. I like the black on the pre-facelift and then I like the way the surround comes up to meet the light, and the lenses look better on the facelift. The dilema continues.. jackso11
from those pics would say prefae lifts on black
JS2004
So next on the hunt list would be to see what facelift look like once the grey part has been painted.. but definately leaning towards keeping pre-facelift and having the conversion done on those now

Why paint them to look like pre-facelift when you already have pre-facelift? What benefit is there of facelift over pre-facelift other than the housing is grey? I thought that was the only difference, other than a very slightly different size of lens etc.

Bailey.
Facelift all the way, certainly on black, it just stands out one of the best features on the car even more, but each to there own i guess.
JS2004
The housing of the light seems to come up towards the edge of the light and makes the lenses look better Scott, but I am also of the same mind that its a shame to buy facelifts then paint them to look like non facelift. Just wondered what they would look like as the lenses do seem to look much nicer on the facelift. However.. I think I am about 85% for the pre-facelift. KamaSupra
Having replaced the rear lights for facelift on a black Supra, I prefer the facelifts. I like how the lights are slightly tinted and they stand out more against the black paintwork with the grey background. If I was to change it, I'd want the inside to look like carbon fibre. JS2004
Carbon fibre.. now there is an idea.. Wonder if the wrap stuff would be suitable for doing that with (thinking of heat from bulbs).

That's been done before (by BlueAngel I think) The lenses on Facelift lights are also a clearer design than pre facelift. They are actually quite different when you view them up close

Sure I've seen some carbon fibre lights on here before, looked really good.
