Good suits

Evening all,

Can anyone recommend where to buy a decent suit from nowadays? Or any brands/tailors they'd recommend? Used for business.

As I'm a bit of a short-ar$e and also bit odd shaped - 34 waist, 48 chest it is hard to find a good fit.

Otherwise has anyone got any tailors they could recommend in London when I next go up there? Looking at up to the £400 mark.

Was tempted to try a 'put your measurements in' on the net website type like http://www.tailor4less.com or http://www.kingandallen.co.uk ?

Personally, I hit Matallan for my daily suits.... Replace them every month :)

Ah whilst we both have our vertical challenge, you are not shaped like an inverted pear and luckily are more in proportion. Wearing a suit like that makes it look like someone's tried to stuff a slightly unhairy gorilla in it.

Matallan is a mix and match type.. So you can pick a trouser and then a jacket in the matching style.... Comes in handy for my short arse :) (32/34 short)

I buy all of mine from Charles Tyrwhitt - they have stores on Jermyn St and also in Bicester Village, you can pop in and they'll measure you up and the stuff is really good quality. They do really good quality shirts and ties too.

Maybe a bit pricey, but I always prefer spending a bit more on tailoring and getting a great look.

I am a regular size so any of the brands suit well (excuse the pun), I choose Hugo Boss if its off peg else I tend to go bespoke for special occasions.

As you are not a regular size I would definitely suggest exploring bespoke options (the fit will be far better), other than Saville Row tailors I have no other personal experience of bespoke and they are not going to be in the sub 1500 budget.

I use Samual Brothers but 400 quid will only get you the trousers.

Heh someone else in fact recommended them to me personally, but said to get a decent suit you really have to look at £1200-1500. Sometime, but alas not in my budget currently for a day-to-day travel suit! :D Also said Ede & Ravenscroft?

Thanks for this recommendation. I cruised up to bicester the other day on a day off and had a look around and must admit the fitment was very good and got a couple of the italian travel suits and a few pairs of trousers. Alas didn't really think to look at the shirts but I'm a big fan of Poggianti shirts as they seem to have a very good fabric.

My dad has a couple of suits from Slaters - very nice and you could probably get 2 suits for your budget

Personally I buy off the shelf (Boss, Armani etc), but have a couple of William Hunt suits (Savile Row) - extremely good can tell the quality from a mile off and they are made to measure but they are a tad over £400 - imo well worth the price
