RHD to LHD conversion

Hey guys,

after driving too many RHD supras here in Belgium i was wondering what would be needed to do a RHD to LHD conversion.

I'm not so technical when it comes to cars so maybe you guys can clear things up for me a bit. I know this probably isn't easy or cheap but it has been done so the possibility is real.

Thx

I wish...easier yes offcourse if you have a secret treasurechest in your basement. LHD tend to go for at least 20.000£ for a decent one(and that's cheap). Are some for about 15000£ but condition is not ideal and high mileage.

If for example i would buy a TT RHD for let's say about 8000£, and the cheap LHD go for 15000£ you still have about 7000£ room to do the conversion. Maybe it would be more expensive i don't know. That's what i'm trying to figure out.

you would need a lot....

just a few things...

engine harness

pedal box

dash board complete

all heater stuff behind..matrix etc

all the dash panels, center console etc

wipers, wiper cowling

bulkhead

steering rack

steering colomn

dash loom and fuse boxes

loads more...basically a lot of work...if you had a doner vehicle...not too bad...

Thx Keron that gives at least an idea. Its not that these parts are impossible to find, its just not easy. Sometimes a crashed LHD comes by here on the web but they get sold pretty quick :banghead:. Seems a lot of work but i do think one would be cheaper off by doing this then buying a LHD. This offcourse if you have someone to do the work at a friendly price.

Yes i know LHD are bloody cheap check this one out !! :p

No ok there are cheaper ones but come on 20.000€ is not cheap to me. Offcourse i understand i can't expect to get a LHD for 10.000€.

Sending one from the states... don't know really haven't checked. But they aren't much cheaper than here in Belgium i think. And add about 1500£ transport, don't know if import taxes count here, but i think they do.

wouldnt you also have to cut out the firewall and weld in a lhd one?

i saw one done before but i was a full reshell job in the first place iirc.

Yes i was wondering that, does the shell need adjustment too?

If your cars fitted with abs it'll make it a nightmare also, the abs pump sits where the servo etc sits, so all new brake pipes needed etc.

With the prices for what you need and labour costs it'll work out more than buying one I wouldve thought!

It's the same girl as in Jamseys avatar! Can't remember her name though! :(

OK OK !!! Just to be sure you guys get a decent sleep tonight and your wife doesn't catch you behind your computer at 3 in the morning searching the internet desperatly to find this girl and her ass!

Her name is Keyra Augustina, she is from argentina(where i lived before i moved to this godforsaken 24h rainy miserable backgarden they call Belgium). The pride off our nation!! :D

Now pleaaase !! lets get back on topic :complain:

Firewall is different.. made correctly, firewall need to be replaced. But, since it is metal, all is doable :)

For cost, so many parts included. Steering column, full dashboard + inside (aircon etc), pedals, door cards, brakelines, modified / custom engine loom etc etc.

One local member made it without donor car, said it was complete nightmare :D

One with donor car, work still in progres...

Easiest would be buying donor car from US, maby rear wrecked TT / cheap non finished project so there would be TT engine to sell + other parts. With NA.. only if you would ge it very cheap.

referring to my previous post on last page, i think if you want to do it, i really suggest that donor car.

Wrecked: copart.com ridesafely.com

and also autotrader.com

:)

I`ve been researching this also since i`m Finnish... this conversion involves so much work that only solution for me it would be sell this RHD car and buy LHD. But not for now :)

There was one LHD (converted? manual?) aerotop NA sale on estonia. About ~14000€? I think those manual NA LHD`s goes about same price... or slightly less shipped from US.

If car is NA obiously, atleast 2JZ engine is needed ;) + custom engine loom + jdm ecu

6spd gearbox

TT drivetrain

etc?

...so goes list. Soon you notice that complete LHD TT 6spd from US is much reasonable ;)

edit: But if you ment high mileage TT 6spd from US, go for it, jdm 2jz would be "easy" to swap... :D

Yes that's what i meant, a high mileage american or european TT. Sometimes cheaper LHD supras come along for sale in europe but mileage is mostly above 200.000km. If engineswap with Jdm 2jz doesnt cause a lot of "problems" this would be the best option i think...
