MARTIN R
I dont want to go Ex directory but the number of calls we are getting from sales people is becoming bloody irritating. We were just handing the phone to the dog and they kept talking away whilst she walked around the house with the phone in her mouth Cant remember how to get them stopped , anyone know how thanks
RedM
You need this, the Telephone Preference Service. http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/ Worked for us. There is an overlap after you sign up. One very persistant company who nearly always rang me at 8AM on Sundays were stopped after I asked the lass who called to describe her panties to me. They never called again. Max Headroom
If they want to sell you windows, tell them your a double glazing fitter and if it is kitchens your a kitchen fitter. Once had a fellow ring offering new doors and windows and the conversation went like this Salesman "sir can I speak to you about new doors and windows" Me "No im not interested" Salesman "Can I ask why" Me "I've just got rid of my wife for the day, my girlfriend is here for the afternoon for some serious fun and you want to talk to me about doors and windows, what do you think the answer is going to be !" Salesman "Sorry to have bothered you, bye sir" Company hasnt rung back since
darren j adams
I dont answer when they talk ,i just leave the phone on the side and come back a few mins later and they are gone. Just me trying to let them waste money on calls. D.
sinbad
We don't even speak anymore. When we hear the unknown accent (English (sorry) or usually Indian) we just set the phone down. Might try that link above. Thanks
MaveriK
Works brilliantly, have been a member for a while and its cut my calls to the bone. And the ones that slip through the net and ring anyway you just tell them your a member and they should say sorry for troubling you and hang up. Soonto_HAS_soop
I signed up for this and have had only 1 or 2 since doing so, used to get 10 an evening. The only ones that seem to get through are the recorded voice messages saying that you have won a prize.
Guest Sakura
I signed up for this and have had only 1 or 2 since doing so, used to get 10 an evening. The only ones that seem to get through are the recorded voice messages saying that you have won a prize. They are so damned annoying! I registered with TPS a few months ago, and the sales calls have reduced considerably. Apparently the fake prize-winning companies can be fined for leaving those messages that block your answerphone for 15 minutes at a time, but they are always "number withheld" so I don't know how to report them? ivan
I registered with TPS about a year ago and haven't been troubled since. Takes about a month / 6 weeks to kick in but once it does, peace and quiet. The occasional company says they're only "conducting market research and as such aren't covered by the TPS". My answer to them is always the same: Why the hell do you think I registered - just because the law doesn't cover you doesn't mean that I want to hear from you. I usually then just leave the phone near the tele until they hang up.
Ark
I have two methods for dealing with these callers, depending on my mood - I either let the answering machine field the call (people I want to speak with know I do this, so they hold on), alternatively I'm abrupt, rude or downright abusive, depending on how many times they've called in the past. I'm ex-directory which helps a lot, but it doesn't help when someone seems to be giving out my number as their contact for surveys and stuff I get god-only knows how many calls for Mr Single! MARTIN R
Just to a quick update, Since we registered with TPS the phone has become completley silent to unwanted sales calls Would recommend this to anyone

Our phone number is registered with them but we still get sale calls. Not as many, but they still come through. Still worth having:)
chilli
We had the same problem, even unplugged the phone for months because of it, so I phoned BT and went Ex-directory and they gave me 2 number to phone and register with and now nothing. I recommend to anyone. You have to re-register with these companies yearly so keep the numbers handy!
