Scutch0
Hey guys, I've got myself some jbl 16.5 speakers for the front of my supe. I'm obviously gonna cut myself some speaker brackets but I really want the stock look grills... Has anyone found replacement covers that look stock? Or I considered removing them and Swiss cheese'n them and then recovering. Anyone done anything similar? The jbl grills are a proper eye sore, so I'm defo not fitting them! Scott
You shouldn't really need to touch the grills. Simply take off the doorcard, fit speaker brackets, mount speakers to the brackets. From there simply trim doorcard to accomodate the speaker, as it overlaps, and then re-fit it. The stock grills will remain in place. This is in my head though, might not be quite this straight forward in reality.
Scutch0
Nice one, cheers for the imput. Well my only concern is that the stock grills are only vented for that piddly little 4" speaker and port, so the new speaker isn't gonna be able to deliver the extra sound because half of it will be covered in plastic. Also where is this template for the speaker brackets I've seen? I can't seem to find it now!

They shouldn't make that much of a difference as the higher frequencies will be from the tweeter anyway. The woofer won't be as supressed by the lack of grill It was in the "ice technical" forum. Not sure where it will be if it has moved. Lee @ SRD does the proper brackets if you want ready made ones
TTRickeh
I'd be interested to find where decent grilles can be found too. The new Alpine Type R ones look crap. I've bought ones like these but tbh they look a bit crap as well, and i'll have to cover them in some sort of cloth because of the big spaces between the holes

TTRickeh
That's the type of thing i'm after, can't find any Alpine ones though, or just plain unbranded.

I had the fusion covers in the rear of my car. I just removed the "fusion" logo... job done. Same would go for the rainbows. I would be going for them, they look very nice. TTRickeh
Just bought them Didn't realise you could take the logos off. Nice and dark around the edges so you can't see bits of door card too.
