tkddav3
Been thinking about upgrading the brakes on my supra. currently running uk spec front and rears under some 18" veilside andrews. Had a look at the d2 setups n they dont look too bad for the price. any opinions? and wud they fit under my veilside wheels? Thankssss
Nic
Why do you want to 'upgrade' them? Personally if I had the larger brakes already fitted, I wouldn't waste my money on fitting anything else unless I was spending big money on something like a set of Brembo or AP Racing. A quality set of pads, braided lines, decent fluid and a brake master cylinder stopper would give more than enough stopping power on the road. monsween
keep the uk's and treat them with a spruce up as Nic suggests

Supranature
There is a thread going in to great detail by a Member of the physical/real world properties of various brake set-ups- the "Definitive brake thread" I think. You will get a surprise if you can dig it out and read through.....
Scott
Spend a couple of 100 refurbishing the UKs properly and you will be blown away by the performance of them.
imi
Spend a couple of 100 refurbishing the UKs properly and you will be blown away by the performance of them. yeah but they only have 4 pot fronts and 2 pot rears, these days people want several dozen pistons per corner..... Scott
yeah but they only have 4 pot fronts and 2 pot rears, these days people want several dozen pistons per corner..... Ahh but the brembo caliper covers, ever popular on here, can be bought for the appearance. Cheap as chips... win win!
JakeG
Paul wiffin does a nice Ksport kit, They could be an option for you, i will be going with them but then again I only have tiny Jspec brakes!
Dnk
For most who only use their cars on the rd its purely for looks, you can make j specs work pretty good as far as rd use is concerned. If you have the cash then fine go for it, they do look nice
Swampy442
yeah but they only have 4 pot fronts and 2 pot rears, these days people want several dozen pistons per corner..... Lol true. Unless you spend the thousands on a Grex/Brembo etc set up youre not gonna gain much if anything over a good UK set up
Swampy442
Or theres these APs on Driftworks, suit 330mm discs http://www.driftworks.com/forum/parts-sale-private-sales/136534-brand-new-ap-racing-cp6600-4pot-calipers.html
tkddav3
id love a set of brembos or ap's. id have to sell a kidney to afford them tho. might just "bling" up the uk specs n see how they turn out. Brembo caliper covers....hmmm , never knew such thing existed
suprasize
What spacers you using dude to clear UK spec brakes with your Veilside Andrews?
bigbloodyturbo
I have 355mm stoptech's on my s4 and can say they are really very good, press the pedal at any speed and they cope just fine. I have LS400 calipers on the front of my supra and they were really quite capable. My best advice would be to refurb your UK's and try bedding in a good set of pads properly, not just 'drive them easy for 300miles', give them the proper treatment. This worked wonders for all my cars.
Scott
If you're going to refurb the UKs you really need to do a proper job. New pistons, new seals, new shims and new pins are a must. If you do all of that and get some good pads on them you will find the UK calipers transformed. The only trouble is that it will be quite costly. The pistons alone are ITRO £20 each. Swampy442
Dont forget CW does his own brand of stainless pins and pistons
Kirk
He also supplies the O ring which sits between the calipers which even toyota dont even list! Do it right the first time and never have another problem with brakes ever again!
James
I'd love a set of APs or Brembos for the same reason that I would like to have proper facelift headlights instead of 'facelifted' prefacelift headlights Having just upgraded from J-Spec to UK spec, the extra stopping power is incredible With the right hoses, a Cusco brake master cylinder stopper and good fluid (5.1 for example) you'll be laughing Just paint them a bright colour like I did and they are transformed too
Dnk
If you have to pay someone to refurb them and you fit new pistons you'll be getting close to what a brand new caliper costs. (uk 4 pot) New caliper is approx £190 inc vat
