Gaz6002
We've just broken this story in the last few minutes. Another 10p per litre by April 1 Well the Government is going to have to do something sooner or later... isn't it?

Gaz6002
Why would they? We're still paying for it regardless of cost are we not? Well to an extent, but studies have shown that motorists are slowing down and driving slower to save fuel. Sooner or later we'll hit breaking point. People simply can't do without cars. Dnk
Hardly a shock with whats going on in the middle east, it could happen a fair bit sooner than April from what im reading regarding Libya
Tricky-Ricky
So who's having a laugh, the government or somebody else? The date seems a little err funny:blink:
JustGav
Hell, I'm buying a smartcar just because it is at least something half fun and gives me the same economy as my little van....given the choice I'd be in an m3 or a supra, but it is such a complete and utter waste of money each day. Then van gets me by on around £20/week.
Jurgen-Jm-Imports
So who's having a laugh, the government or somebody else? The date seems a little err funny:blink: its crazy the uk government can and should freeze the price as our fuel is already massive compared to other countries.. we pay so much to them they rake millions and millions most of out fuel cost is tax.. Purity14
When are they going to up the standard pence per mile from 40p?! Thats what Id like to know too.. but then surely the company car driver is taking that money tax free.. so upping the 40p is not in their interests. Couple of years ago when it peaked at 1.50 petrol prices, alot of on-site engineers i know LOST their own money doing their job.

Swampy442
Sooner or later we'll hit breaking point. People simply can't do without cars. We hit breaking point when it went to 90p a litre and there were protests and road blocks. As Monsween said we're still paying and wont stop paying so theres no incentive for the government to reduce tax etc. Plus the fact that alot of garages are franchises anyway setting their own prices. Morpheus
Hell, I'm buying a smartcar... Smart move. I bought one 4 years ago. Still got it. Infact, the video I posted couldn't be more relevant. It contains an in depth analysis of oil/energy production vs. use/population growth. It gives the precise reason for the current petrol price, (manipulation notwithstanding), and if you wanted to, you could make a fortune with this information. Ignoring it is a very bad move. Oil will probably be over $150 a barrel again quite soon and maybe $200 by the end of the year. Wait until Iran kicks off. Look up Stuxnet virus. If you use your own car for business you can offset at 40p per mile minus what you have been paid by the company for the first 10,000 miles, then the difference from 24p for the remainder. If a company car driver gets free fuel it costs a couple of grand a year for a higher rate tax payer. Strange thing is that right now the petrol retailers are also taking the proverbial. Fuel costs in Europe have dropped so far this year. Think it is about 3% iirc compared to a 5+% increase in the UK. It's got to stop sometime. Last month I spent over £700 in fuel. In a diesel that does 45 mpg! That was up about £200 on normal, although my mileage was a little higher too. Working for a small business I can see these costs becoming more of an issue going forward. Maybe we need to remember that it is going to be the poorest in society that are effected the hardest by this and it is taking cash out of the economy that is currently being spent elsewhere. This will impact all businesses. The government have promised the fuel stabiliser but are yet to do anything about it. My 2p worth anyway. Sorry, I worded my post incorrectly, i meant to say using private cars for work. And then my friends who had company cars getting paid 12ppm were out of pocket I am a private car 40ppm claimer and do 25k or thereabouts per year minimum, so the 25p for the last 15k makes a big difference. Saab twin turbo diesel at £200 per month cost. Not the last word in poise or refinement but has loads of kit, is great on the motorway and packs a pretty decent punch. Seriously considering something smaller next time to reduce the costs.
