3" Blitz decat pipe Question

Hi all,

 

I just wanted to know what the advantages are of using the Blitz 3" 2nd decat pipe in the picture below. Will there be an increae in performance compared to a 2.5" decat.

 

I have a Blitz Nur Spec R cat back exhaust sytem on my car. Also will this be a straight forward direct replacement for the current 2.5" decat i currently have installed?

I am just trying to think of ways to increase the power in my car without increasing boost. What options are there?

 

1) FMIC or Uprated SMIC (Cris Wilson SMIC)

2) 2nd cat decat (I already have a 2.5" decat)

3) K&N panel Air filter

4) Cat back exhaust system (I alredy have a Blitz Nur Spec R)

 

I just basically want my car to be producing above stock power, anything between 300hp - 330hp would be great.

It wont be, the car being 16 years old, the intercooler for example won't be as efficient as it was when new, things like this causes the car to lose a few ponies over the years.

 

I'd hope it'd still be above 300 if serviced and maintained well. I might get to the dyno day even if I'm not at BPU levels so I have a comparison :)

i would personely get a k&n filter with a hard pipe that delets the the stock air filter box, as they can be restrictive.

if you do that then have the 2nd decat u will see just over 300hp maybe more.

If your only looking to get between 300-330hp your stock intercooler should be fine as long as it is in good condition.

if it isnt then go for the Cris Wilson side mounted intercooler

when you fit your 2nd decat you may need to fit an FCD if your boost exceeds 1bar

I didnt realise the stock air box was restrictive, wouldnt the induction kit be pulling in hot air from the engine bay and reducing power rather than increaing it? Will a Blitz or a K&N panel filter make a difference?

To be honest My intercooler is defo in the need of replacing :( I have always wanted a C.Wilson SMIC, however the Whifbitz FMIC i very tempting at £460.

My car is running on stock boost so won't be needing a FCD.

a panel filter will make a slight diffrence but not as much as an induction kit.

when the supra is moving there is still cold air being fed into where the air filter is so wont effect the performance

quick question when running decats or straight through pipes, do you pass the mot?? or is a cat nessasary just for the mot??

 

Some say they pass with both decats, some say they fail. There are quite a lot of threads about just this so have a search and if you've got a few hours, read through them all.

What boost are you currently running? Are you just running 2nd decat and stock boost? BPU - removing the 1st cat, FCD, fuel pump, cooler plugs, etc. running 1.2bar should make around 380-400hp and will really bring the car alive.

 

For more power than that you'll need longer duration/higher lift cams, vernier cam gears, piggyback or standalone ECU and perhaps a good quality SMIC or FMIC, that should give you around 420+hp.

Ok cool :) If i did go for an induction kit, it will also enable me to fit an FMIC without the worry of trying to fit it without removing the stock air box.

the question has been asked a few times and there are always diffrent answer.

from what i understand if u have a j-spec supra there is no match for it in the M.O.T book so i think it dosent have to have a cat test only an emission test.

where as if you have a uk spec there is a match for it so it needs a cat test aswell as emission test.

TBH i have never really looked into it. I have a mate that mot's my car for me so he just ignors that kind of thing.

I did mention the theroy to him but we didnt look into to see if it was true.

there is a thread on here somwhere that explains it with a letter from VOSA itself

Forget an induction kit, it may make more hp on a dyno with the bonnet up and a large fan blowing air at the front of the car but when driving all it will do is suck in hot air from under the bonnet, lose you hp and make more noise. The stock airbox is sealed from the engine bay and has 2 cool air feeds and is not restrictive.

 

A decent quality FMIC will fit with the stock airbox in place, it is only the cheap quality ebay FMIC's that foul the stock airbox.

Not criticising but how come you don't want to raise the boost?

Why stock boost? BPU running 1.2bar makes a MASSIVE difference to the response and power of the car, as I said it really brings the car to life.

 

Running stock boost you're not going to make much more than 320hp, you could fit cams and ECU, but it'll be expensive and not make a huge difference. Anything else such as induction kits is just a waste of time and money and will make b*gger all difference to power.

I basically don't want to up the boost on my car as I don't want that kind of HP, I know this sounds dumb but I just dont trust myself with that kind of power and I dont think I have the driving skills to handle that kind of power.

 

If I feel in the near future that I can handle a 400hp car then yes i would go BPU :)

A stock J-spec TT when it was new produced around 320hp.

 

You're not going to see big gains by fitting a new IC unless your current one is very tired.

 

If you don't want a big jump in hp then I would do BPU and fit a restrictor ring that limits the boost to around 1bar, this should give you around 350hp and the turbos will be LOT more responsive. Once you get use to the power you could either increase the diameter of the hole in restrictor ring to raise the boost to 1.2bar or fit a boost controller and use that to raise the boost.

 

I know the GReddy, Blitz and HKS IC's will fit with the stock airbox, an aftermarket SMIC will also fit. Many of the ebay FMIC's foul the stock airbox, other brands I don't know.

I know it was aimed at Nic but the BPU page says that for a J-spec, you'll need a boost controller to raise the boost and a restrictor ring to stop it going too high. So yeah, you'd need both :)

 

You may just need to fiddle with the size of the hole in the RR to get the boost to where you want it. Oh and a boost gauge to keep an eye on it!
