hp006
I have changed the front hubs over. I am now trying to swap the rears over to add the abs sensor. I have undone all bolts and am down to the last ball joint. I can not remove this for love nor money. I have tried forked ball joint remover, scissor type ball joint remover hitting the ball joint on the side. Non of these techniques have realesed it. The drive shaft is loose as well so it is only the last ball joint holding the hub on. http://s3.postimage.org/1k9hm451g/IMAG0017.jpg Am i missing something? Is there a different technique to remove the bottom side??
Chris Wilson
Big block of steel one side of the female part of the coupling, and the ball of a ball pein on the opposite side, or as opposite as access allows. Ideally you need an assistant. The shock slightly deforms the taper and the joint separates. a fork tool just destroys the rubber dirt boot. hp006
Whats the difference of hitting it with a ball pein hammer and just a hammer?
Chris Wilson
The ball concentrates the force.
EdMorris
I did this and had the exact the same problem. Using Chris's technique helped but I still fooked the ball joint and had to get new suspension arms as a new ball joint only comes with a new arm. Still, it will transform the rear handling so thats a plus. Silver lining and all that. Good luck and be patient, unlike me. Try some heat too if you have something strong enough. bignum
A long extension bar on the nut with the nut on 4/5 turns, hit extension bar with lump hammer, access can be tight, try not to bash the wheel arch in!
