I hate my neighbours

Bought a little civic as a run about on saturday, parked it outside my house at 8.30pm and 10.am sunday morning it looked like this...

The broken tail light says 'Honda' on it and there was a Honda CR-V parked with the rear facing the side of my civic when I parked up. The CR-V had gone, my car was smashed. I called round at the house the CR-V was visiting and a little old lady said she had no visitors last night (despite them being parked in her parking space right outside her house). Her direct neighbour told me they were visiting her (the little old lady) and they come almost everyday in the week.

Needless to say the honda hasn't been back yet this week....guessing its being fixed.

I am off to report this to the police tonight, if I report to the police do I need to report it to my insurance company? I want to tell the police, but not my insurance.

I think if you're calling the Police you'll need to inform the insurance company. At the end of the day, someone has driven away from the scene of an accident - makes me blood boil that people think its OK to do it too. Call the Rozzers and follow it down.

Wait for them to come back and have a "word" with the owner of the CR-V. If they visit her so often they'll surely be back.

A couple over the road had their daughter visiting the other week and as she reversed off the drive she went straight into the side of my Dad's A6. Luckily it's a company car and she knocked the door and owned up.

My missus scraped her car turning to sharply past a parked car in a car park, nobody around but she still left her number on the cars window as its just what should be done. We always talk to the lady who owns the house, she sits outside all the time, now she has really annoyed me lying straight to my face.

Jackso, I would keep an eye out for the CR - V and tell them that your neighbour witnessed the collision. Make a note of the registration while they are looking. Just give them your insurance details, phone number, tell them the Police have been notified and walk away. I bet they ring you an hour or so later offering to pay for the damage.

will my insurance go up if they get involved? despite it happening while i was in bed?

My car was hit in the car park, it put my premium up despite the other person paying. The moment you report it to your insurers its classed as an accident, your fault or not. My advice, call winns solicitors, they dealt with my car park incident, didnt tell my insurers. They dealt with it all and it didnt cost me a penny.

Annoying thing is I got this car as a cheap runabout, and to repair that will cost me the same as I paid for the car!

Some people are just unbelievably careless. If it were me, I'd go talk to the old lady and say as she doesn't know who it is that you're going to report it to the police in the morning. I'm sure the owners of the CR-V will own up. If they don't then just wait for them to next come back and have a word with them and say you have a witness who saw them hit the car and drive off and you want their insurance details and you're notifying the police.

I'm sure they'll pay up.

This happened to my sister's car, the dosey cow reversed straight into her car then took her car to get fixed that day so when we looked there was no broken light. But she left broken light on the floor which said toyota on (she has a rav 4) and my sis's car had paint transfer on and so did the rav 4. My dad had "a word" and funnily enough she owned up and she forked out for the respray and the panel pull out in cash because she didn't want her husband to find out... lol

I take it checking your mirrors is optional these days

If you were in bed then you'll be ok. Don't tell them you were in the kitchen or dining room or you'll lose your NCB...!!

I like that :)

Would you like a £500 bill caused by someone else? Lie to get the truth..!!

Is it necessary?

Why not just explain to the old lady that their friends have accidently damaged the car. If they don't come and speak to him then he will have to report it to the Police. The old lady will think she is defending her friends from the big scary young neighbour. Leave your number and give them a day or two. If they don't then go to the Police as others have suggested.

That is exactly what I did last night. I gave her my number, she said it must have been her cousin as she was parked there. Heard nothing yet and if I don't by the time I get home I am reporting.
