Chris Wilson
Just been looking for a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cups for my Skyline. 235/40/18 fronts and 265/40/18 rears. Whilst these have never been a cheap tyre we are now talking well over £1100 a set. Seeing as I can get through a set in 3 track days this is getting daft, it may have to go on slicks, which means buying another set of rims and some wets, but with a bit of thought I may be able to find a series that can supply used rubber. Jamesy
That is bloody crazy money Have you tried Camskill?
fizzle
could you use part worns/remoulds? even if they just last one or even half a track day would still work out cheaper at £40-£50 a pop!
Chris Wilson
Having spent a lot on making the car handle and stop well it would be sacrilege to fit less than optimal tyres. very few people do the Pilot Sport Cups so my options are limited. I have found and bought six brand new Pirelli P-Zero Corsa rears for sensible money, but I am having no luck finding old new stock of fronts of the right size to match. The new Trofeos are actually a tad dearer than the Michelins and are an unknown quantity to me, so I don't want to fit something unknown at strong money. I'll try Camskill. Thanks. Havard
Those are expenive rubber Mr W..!! I would seriously consider going with slicks and swapping them for the track. H.
Thorin
What about Dunlop DZ03G's, used as a control tyre in a few race series I believe?
Chris Wilson
I think they will be too soft. Something of this weight (1350 KG/s I am embarrassed to say) with two wheel drive and a typical front engine road based cars propensity to understeer needs some rock hard rubber on it I think with it needing nearly a grands worth of front discs and pads at the same time has made me realise how expensive things are getting. How about Kumho? (stop sniggering) http://www.srbpower.com/products/KUMHO-ECSTA-V70A-265%7B47%7D35WR18-%252d-%28HARD%29.html
pedrosixfour
I have absolutely no idea how they'd compare to what you'd regard as suitable tyres Chris but I think Maxxis and Advan have new road legal track tyres on the market now. I could be seriously mis-informed about this though.
