removing rattle can paint

picked up my cheap runabout today and want to spruce it up a bit.....it is a little civic that was owned by a chav, so its blue with a white touring strip on the window and rattle can painted white wing mirrors!

Anyone know how I can 'clean' off rattle can paint and leave the original paint underneath?

I can't think of any way of removing paint that won't remove the paint underneath. Rattle can spray, while not as nice to apply, has pretty much the same makeup as proper mixed paint. You won't be able to remove one without removing the other, chemically anyway.

Your only REAL option is to take some wet and dry to it and run up the grit levels till you have a decent finish.

Personally I would just buy a rattle can of the colour you are after and just go nuts :D

My van has been in a body shop all week trying to remove the paint it had thrown over it 3 TIMES!.

Nothing they used touched it so they said the only option is to respray it, they then said just try some mr muscle oven cleaner and it took all of the grey paint of without any damage to the original paint. It has made a big diference to the brown paint, not totally removing it though.
