TBH I think nuclear is the least worst option. I don't think anyone will be particularly happy about it but will accept it if it means they don't have to change their lifestyle.

So, energy solved. Lots of leccy for battery powered cars. What about lubricant for them once the oil goes? That super-fine sand from Greenland (or was it Iceland) that flows like liquid?

There used to be a lot of stigma surrounding nuclear energy but I think most of that has been washed away with facts over the past decade or 2. I'm no expert on the subject but through various presentations at my work regarding it I have been told that it is one of the cleanest ways of producing energy and that activists actually support nuclear power now, whereas previously there were a lot of well known groups demonstrating against it.

Electrically powered cars aren't a solution and never have been. However, cars are a transport reality and something had to be done to begin lowering CO2 and preserve fossil fuels in the shorter term. New or hyper-efficient electricity generation methods will eventually be developed, as will alternative methods of propulsion for cars.

Here's another interesting thing to think about: how about you drive your car all day, and when you park it up you plug it into your house and it powers your house, making you all-but independent of the national grid? You might even pump energy back into the grip for government remuneration. I believe this technology will surface soon, and it'll represent another huge change in how people use their cars.

Hmmm.... Like a super-KERS system? Would you need bigger cars to power bigger houses? What about using them to compliment solar power?

I have an idea that one day we'll get a box, a small box, no bigger than a lunchbox and that will contain a super-efficient battery that powers everything you own. It'll run your car, your home, your gadgets and will last, I dunno, a year on typical use before recharging is needed. Everyone gets the same power so that we do away with haves and have-nots and losing your power-box will be a big deal.

Yes, pretty much like that. Obviously it's a bit pie-in-the-sky now but the technology is getting there.

I think your box is essentially what we're moving towards, and that sounds so wrong I think I need to wash my hands.

My box is a clean, environmentally sound box. You're all welcome to move towards it.

Company car drivers will see the biggest benefit. No company car tax at all.

Short working days too, only 100 miles to cover :D

This would be ideal for me as a lazy rep..!!

I have found that pushing my car is extremely fuel efficient and also good excercise, people should car share and take turns pushing and steering..!!

It's not good for the environment though, especially if you eat a lot of beef and fish. If you ate only beef it'd be worse for the environment to cycle or walk to work than to drive the Supra! You're OK if you eat only fruits and stuff though, so RedM; push away!! :D

I recommend the book 'Time to Eat the Dog?' by Robert and Brenda Vale if you're interested in this stuff. It's a bit numbery and statistical at times but worth the effort.
