ManwithSupra
Has anyone done this on the Supra? Or has anyone got any experiance of doing this or had this done on other cars? What are the pro's and con's etc.. I have been reading up on this on the net and i may possibly explore this at a later date.
barneybrendan
i have done this to mk1 and 2 escorts and mini;s.called seem welding. It stiffens the car up,best thing is to make a spit roast so you can spin the shell as this makes life easier.ALSO gussiting helps add extra strength to the chassis. Wez
There is a chassis for sale at the moment which has been partly seem welded.
Chris Wilson
The issues are cleaning a painted and seam sealed shell to get a good weld, and burning off of paint inside box sections as a result of the welding heat, which makes it rust like hell if it's not addressed. Fitting a welded in multi point cage will make FAR FAR more difference to rigidity than seam welding. A seam welded shell may propagate accident damage far further into the structure, and makes repairs far harder if you have a whoopsie.
