KrisM
Hi all, I'm positive i'm treading over old ground, and as good as the search function is, i can't see what i want to know so... Going to service the car, my list so far: Fuchs Titan Supersyn 10w40 & filter Fuel filter Brake fluid Timing belt Coolant Gear and diff oil will be next year as only done 3yr ago. What belt should I get? Standard Toyota or Gates? Should I renew the timing tensioner? If so what part(s) do i require? Think Opie will get my order for oil, filters, fluid etc. Maybe whifbitz for the rest Thanks for your guidance. Kris
Swampy442
Toyota for filters and belts, maybe Whifbits for the tensioner. You dont need fully synth in a stock car, semi synth is more than adequate mate. I always say do the water pump while the cam belt is off as it makes sense but some people dont see the point. SilentAgro
It is good practice to change the water pump while you are at that point. Putting the new belt on could put more pressure on the old water pump and you will have to take it all apart again. Saves time and money in the long run. KrisM
Thanks guys. So semi will do the job fine aye? The car is on stock turbos at 1.2bar. Gets a hard time now and again. I have always used Gates belts on my other cars I have done in the past so will likely take your advice Dude. Will the water pump need done at 60k? I have always changed them when they are internal on the block but external ones last alot longer I thought. The tensioner is a roller bearing and a hydraulic piston yes? Cheers

I'd also replace the timing belt tensioner and pulley, also the crank pulley if you can afford it as these are failing on many members cars. Swampy442
Toyota specced semi synth all those years ago, and oils have advanced loads over the years so yes, Id say semi is fime on a stock engine, Up to you though as its your money. I said water pump as its right in front of you when you take the cam belt off, and Id be pissed off it ID rebult the front of the engine and it leaked a month after lol. Yes tensioner is as you said

trinitom
i just think you should do the gearbox and diff oil change for the sake of £20, I change mine on every 2 engine oil changes.
KrisM
I would be lucky to get 2l of gear oil for £20. Wasn't done that long ago, maybe 12k so no need to change it yet.
trinitom
well i use Castrol Syntrax on my gear box (w58) and 1l it's about £8. if you are on 6 speed that would be more expensive. but 12k miles it's fine, if i'm not wrong it should be changed every 30k miles.
