Now i do have said alarm but it was on the car when i bought it and i don't have the receipt. RobSheffield
Firstly, what brand of alarm do you have?
Gaz6002
You need to go to an approved installer for whoever makes the alarm. It'll cost £20 or so for the certificate.

RobSheffield
toad Thats a bit mean, he was only trying to help what a rip-off, £20 for a bit of paper.. Well, you could save £20 and not send it to the insurance, and get them to requote without the alarm, at an extra £1,000,000,000 etc. The alarm fitters know you need it for the insurance. They also tell you to be careful with it and not lose it, and send a photocopy to the insurers.
The-Plethora
Mine had an alarm when I got it. There was no documentation other than a blank certificate that came with the alarm. Sky just advised me to take it to a local garage to get them to stamp it which they were happy to do, no charge,
Swampy442
+1 for the alarm installer. I was in the same boat as you once, with a Toad alarm. Took it to an approved Toad installer who checked it out and printed me off a certificate
Josh
Maybe speak to whoever you bought the car from and see if they have the certificate.

Gaz6002
what a rip-off, £20 for a bit of paper.. It might cost you nothing, but I always think bunging these people a couple of beer tokens is a good way to ensure good service in the future
fizzle
just spoke to a guy at insurance company he said just go to a garage and have them write a headed letter stating make model fitted, and that would be good enough... I've never had to prove any of my cars were alarmed before they took my word on it..

Josh
i bought it from a garage, who had it from a member on here.. can't remember who tho!! Could post a thread asking who owned the car (by registration) and hopefully they'll be able to dig it out. I guess if you just need a letter from a garage then there's no need to now
Matt H
Obviously with having the car built from ground up I've got my certificate, but I've never once been asked for one in all my years of driving.

Shane
Yeah iv never been asked to prove NCB before but my most recent insurer needed it. Right hassle! Must be the way things are moving in the insurance game, I moved to a new insurer today (away from Sky, saving nearly £300 I hasten to add) and the new insurer has asked for both NCD and Alarm certificate. Guest civictyper2004
Ive always been asked for proof of NCD and in some cases a photocopy of my license has been required too. Never asked for alarm certs on any of my cars but i know friends of mine that have in the past.
Keefred
I got my renewal the other day from A Flux and it said on it 19 years Ncb, I have always had renewals which say the no claims bonus quite clearly. However, it also says that 'included' within my renewal premium of £489 is a £30 policy issue fee and £15 personal accident cover. £30 is quite a result for them for printing one sheet of paper and including a crappy 4 page 'policy' plus I never asked for the personal cover. Although when I changed from Sky to A Flux last year I told them I had a Thatcham cat 1 alarm with an install certificate and sent them a copy of it but on the shedule it says Cat 2 ! Pretty much, all insurance companys are complete crap imo, whats the point in them asking me about an alarm for which I sent them the certificate for and then they put the wrong one down ? You may as well make your own certificate out of a cornflake packet and see if they notice.
