nevins
Right then guys need some help with this. Craig just rang me with a problem. He is stripping down his garrett turbo to do a gasket, but the core is stuck in the not side housing. All the bolts are out but it is stuck tight. He as tried tapping the housing when someone pulls but its not having any of it. Has anyone had this problem before and if so how did you get it free. Thanks Gareth

nevins
Not really to be honest. How safe is it to hit with a twatandfelter
Swampy442
Is it on the car or removed? Sure if you cover the oil ports and put the cartridge in some soft jaws in a vice and tapped the exhaust housing that should free it off?
nevins
Will let him know, im sure he said its on the car as he can not get at one of the bolts, bare in mind this is a n/a-t so a bit tighter to work on

dr_jekyll
cheers nev, just a bit more info, to remove the turbo the cor has to be removed befor i can access the 2 rear bolts. i have been hours tapping spraying and pulling and the bugger is really tigt , it will not budge. i even resorted to a mallet and a chissel in my anger and it will not open , its flat out rediculous. any tips would be greatly recived

SimonB
It can be a total nightmare to get the hot side housings off the turbo, they are an interference fit and once they have been on for a while don't want to come off! I remember having a real struggle with my T67 when I was changing the housing for a larger A/R one. Can't remember how I got it off in the end, sorry! edge
Did you try a heat gun on it or ideally a gas torch of types? If not do you know any welders that could weld something on it to get some leverage but i'm not sure if welding could damage it
