jevansio
My ABS light came on the other day, I was experiencing a missfire at the time, so I unplugged the RLTC from the loom and the missfire went away, so did the ABS fault. Anyway, the ABS light has come back on (and the RLTC is still disconnected), I checked the error codes, I got 31, 41, 49, 51 & 71. Could this be due to a faulty battery, I left my interior light on a couple of weeks ago and the battery drained. I recharged it and everything seemed fine, but i know these small Redtops don't like full discharges? I'm guessing a plethora of faults like that has to be something fundamental, even though 2 of the faults are on the FR wheel speed sensor? Nic
I'd try disconnecting the battery to reset the ECU, driving around a bit and then rechecking for any stored fault codes.
hodge
You can discount 31 and 41. Those are map sensor and TPS. You will always have them cos your not running a stock MAP sensor and you will have a sub TPS with reverse wiring on the TB cos it's a Q45. I finish work at 12am I'll give you a call. jevansio
I'd try disconnecting the battery to reset the ECU, driving around a bit and then rechecking for any stored fault codes. Already done that, tried a big battery too (my original one I use whenever I need to rule out the Varley). Both batteries show 12v on the volmeter and start the car fine. You can discount 31 and 41. Those are map sensor and TPS. You will always have them cos your not running a stock MAP sensor and you will have a sub TPS with reverse wiring on the TB cos it's a Q45. I finish work at 12am I'll give you a call. These are the ABS codes bud, they are: Code 31 - On/Off/On Malfunction of right front wheel speed sensor signal. Check speed sensor, sensor rotor, wiring harness, and connector. Code 41 - On/Off/On Battery voltage is abnormally high or low. Check battery and voltage regulator. Code 49 ??? Code 51 - On/Off/On Actuator pump motor is locked or pump motor circuit is open. Check pump motor, pump motor relay, vehicle battery, actuator wiring harness, connectors, actuator pump motor circuit, and actuator ground bolt. Code 71 Low voltage of right front speed sensor signal. Inspect right front speed sensor and sensor installation. Cheers mate, I'll be down the club but I will take my phone
jevansio
The main ABS fuse is OK, would the next best place to start be the relays in that little box? Or should I try and find out why the FR sensor is playing up (or will that be maybe due to the code 51 which seems to be affecting the entire system)? hodge
My bad. I'll just shut up lol
jevansio
OK, I reset the ABS codes, and took the car out for a drive. The ABS light was off. There was still an ABS problem though, when I pulled up to junctions etc the ABS kicked in even with soft braking. I took the car upto 60mph and did a harsh stop, the car pulled to the left as if no braking was going to the right front wheel. Then the ABS warning came back on and the brakes went normal as if the ABS had been disabled. The ECU had the errors back. I'm going to plug the RLTC back in so I can monitor the speed sensors (as I don't believe it was the RLTC at fault now, rather an ABS error casuing it to go mad). Is it worth swapping the ECU? Does anyone have an ABS ECU lying around I can try? I'm going to ditch the ABS in the summer anyway, so as long as the speed sensors are fine I don't really mind if the ABS unit has gone screwy
hackin_n_bashin
Got one at home mate, can bring it up to Leeds on Monday if you can get down to pick it up.
jevansio
Thanks for the offer bud, Leeds is a bit far from me and I'm starting to think it is a actual speed sensor. The only fault code to come back is the speed sensor (FR). Will put a wanted advert up for one
