Bailey.
Next weekend we will be removing my engine for a refresh and single swap. Has anyone got any tips, or things to watch for when doing this?? One thing I'm unsure about is do you remove the engine and box as one? Or just the engine? I have seen it done both ways but what's the best way. Any help or comments would be appreciated.

Swampy442
Im doing the same thing next weekend, box and engine together. Just make sure everything holding the engine to the chassis is disconnected, jack the rear of the car up as high as you can.
Bailey.
Good old lads, always giving out very important info, lol. I have a range of hammers so no worry there, and there will be 2 or 3 of us around, so plenty of help with lifting out. Engine separate or with box attached? little num
Well ive taken mine out engine only and with box and would say do both together, as for back end high i didnt do it like that i just made it so the whole car was 6" higher then normal and used a good engine hoist. But dont forget to take the front bumper and crash panel off to allow plenty of room for the hoist, and use a good strap or chains.
Swampy442
why jack the rear mate? With the gearbox on gives more room to get a better angle to whip the engine out. Damn these cars not having a removable front.
nevins
Also do not forget to remove the selector cradle as this will catch, as I have seen this done a few times.

nevins
Its a straight forward unplug, unplumb. Split the exhaust and pull her up and out.
Lee P
I've never jacked the back of the car up or removed the shifter cradle lol....... You can get the engine out with the car on the ground after you have removed everthing, but it help to jack the front a little. Leave all the loom on the engine, you can take the ps pump and ac cond off so you don't need to regas ect or if your not bothered leave them on. It's quicker and easier than seperating the two. Get a mate to help feed the engine loom through, that helps alot!
Bailey.
So where does the loom split??
Lee P
In side the car, unplug the ecu and there are a couple of other plugs also. Undo the 2 bolts that hold the rubber gromet on the bulkhead and pull the engine loom out from inside the car into the engine bay.
Lee P
The whole lot comes out together fully assembled. You will have to take the bumper, bonnet, Front mount intercooler off and depending on the hoist you have maybe the front cradle that the lights bolts to. This will give you more room to push the hoist all the way in.

barneybrendan
i have pulled my engine twice now and both times engine only ,left box in place.just not much room for getting at the top gearbox bolts.
Lee P
It's so much easier to pull the whole lot out.
Bailey.
It's so much easier to pull the whole lot out. It doesnt make it horrendously tight when trying to get them both out of the bay together Lee?
Lee P
You have to be careful, it helps if you have a sling to adjust the angle but not essential.
