sim1987
hi all i have been trying to fix my 94 sz manual n/a and cant seem to find the source of the problem. it all started after i got the car back from geting a set of exhaust valves and head gasket fited due to the exhaust valves being bent, shortly after it started steaming out of the expansion tank.i have had a look on a few postes on the forum and found a few things to check i have since: 1.replaced the thermostat. 2.replaced the rad hoses and checked rad. 3.checked the water pump it is ok. 4.fitted new rad cap standard from toyota. 5.heater matrix fine blowing hot air and no damp footwells. even after all this it is still steaming from the expansion i thought maby there is a slight leak in the head gasket as it takes some time to overheat maby 30min . i have runout of ideas please any info appreciated not giving up cant bear to loose the sup.[sAD][/sAD]
nevins
Get a sniff test done on the cooling system, this will give an indication if you have a HG problem

nevins
Any idea how the valves bent, if it was due to a foreign object then it might have damaged something else, or it could be down to human error
sim1987
the mechanic that did the valves for me was a mate of my dads i have since found out he is a bit of a cowboy so i am going to get all the work he did checked as for the valves it was human error i thinkwas out one day giving it a bit o stick and may have over reved it slightly. (although not sure how human error could even manage that!) How did you manage to bend valves! I can tell you the problem, it's a manual... they suffer from head gaskets. Best option is to sell me your gear box, diff and shafts and put it down to a dodgy motor mate! hahaha If your not willing to do that, then i'd have a go at trying to bleed all the air out the cooling system mate, that sounds like your problem. Are you getting hot air out the heater vents?

Are you getting hot air out the heater vents? hot air coming out of the heater vents no problems there and no damp paches in the footwells dont think heater matrix is the prob as for air i have had the car jacked about 3feet of the ground at the front running with the rad cap of and a/c on full still steaming after 20-30min if i cant fix it think il just put the 2jzgte in it instead. nevins
Was the type of person who reused brake fluid, and engine coolant and scavenge parts of customers cars to repair others, done it to a mates car so we dealt with it.

Graham S
just a thought but are the HGs for the turbo and the N/A the same. because he told me he could only get a gasket for the gte. HAHAHA! Quality! He could have also just used 1 and a half rover HG's! Right.. Without that welsh git bitching on about dodgy mechanics and beating us Scots in the rugby my personal suggestion would be to just buy a new engine. There are plenty on here going stupid cheap! (Infact, I could get you one for literally peanuts!) Would take someone with very little mechanical knowledge and and decent socket set a good days work. So your a drifter? Would that have anything to do with you blowing up a bullet proof engine!!
