neo2810
I'm still a little flabbergasted really... I was driving down Osborne Road this evening around 7.30, and for those of you who are not familiar with Newcastle, Osborne Road is a busy road filled with trendy bars in a fairly well off neighbourhood (Jesmond) filled with the rich and students... So I'm driving down slowly behind a taxi and I pass a cyclist shortly before arriving at a set of red lights (still behind the taxi with another car behind me). There is a group of lads (20's) walking up past me on the sidewalk (and some spilling into the road at times) but not looking any different to the hundreds of revellers who frequent the place every weekend. Then out of nowhere I hear a thud followed by a clatter and as I turn my head left, I see the cyclist I had past, rolling down the side of my car his bicycle following him. The scene totally threw me, and I just sat and watched as he picked himself up, looking completely shocked, get back on his bike and cycle through the now green lights. My immediate thought was that one of the lads had stumbled into his path and he had swerved into my car to avoid the person. So I drive on and catch up to him, slow down and lean over to check he's ok. He looks into my window and I give him an enquiring thumbs up. He nods but I can see he's not altogether ok. So I drive to the next side street, hook a left and pull in. He follows me in and I get out of the car. "Are you ok mate?" I ask "Yeah I think so, he says, is your car damaged at all?" "I don't know, I'll have a look" So I trundle around to the other side to survey the damage while asking: " What happened?", thinking he was going to confirm my suspicions about swerving to avoid the lad. But oh no.... "One of those Scottish lads rugby tackled me into your car"..... !!!!!! "They WHAT?" "It was more of a shoulder charge"... We both then had a light chat about what we thought of those young men. After that he told me he was heading in for a 12 hour shift at the A&E and he's probably going to see the idiots at some point through the night, to which I helpfully suggested he inject them all with lethal doses of morphine. He agreed. I checked my car as best I could in the dark and saw no visible damage so told him to get himself off as long as he was ok. I contemplated calling the cops to report an assault (which is basically what that was) but decided against it since I could not ID any of the blokes, my car looked ok, and the victim was ok. I figured I'd just be wasting police time. So I'm home now, I've taken a torch to the car and can see very minor damage to the paint on the wing mirror (luckily I think his bike hit that and then my skirt which has a minor stress fracture, missing the door). His body hit the door but must have been mostly the window and stronger upper part of the door since I can't see any door damage. I'll see more tomorrow in the light no doubt. Anyway, I've never ever come across such complete and utter stupidity. And unfortunately the poor bloke on the bike was in the wrong place at the wrong time and became the weapon used to try damage my car. I can't really understand how someone can assault another person so callously just to try damage a nice car. I'll refrain from bad language on the forum but I'm not feeling the love toward those chaps.
jonathanc
hmm horrible story... You meant those lads basically shoved him into your car? Weird... why did he just get up and pretend nothing happened? If I am the cyclist I would confront those idiots.

There were 7 or 8 of them, they were loud and Scottish (not using that as a derogatory term, I just mean they were not local so he would not have know how to take them) and he'd just slammed off the side of a Supra. I'm pretty sure he was in a state of temporary shock and just wanted to get away from the dangerous situation...
Missile
Shocking. Speechless infact. Nice of you to stop to see how he was. There are some that would have made his day even worse by going off on one about hitting your car. Glad he is ok, plus there is not any major damage. Bet they had a right laugh without taking any time to think about the poor chap. Idiots.
Swampy442
Shocking and dangerous behaviour. On the upside, Jesmond is a top night out
Scott
And yet all you hear is about how much of a gentlemans game rugby is compared to the ogreish behaviour of the football fans/players. I'm sure he/they will get what is coming to them.

I'd imagine its the same in most places though. Its a rare night that you can go out and have a laugh without some bellend trying to cause hassle! I lived in Scotland for 9yrs my theory is that there is a serious lack of girls especially good looking ones, so these lads walk around with a hard on all the time they couse these kind of stupid shit due to high level of testerone..! The further south you go the better looking the girls appear to be, it's just an observation..! I am not stereo typing every Scottish boy and girl, but I do believe my comment has some truth in it. I don't know where to start bud, yes you're entitled to your opinion and what you say about the lack of talent is your opinion based on your stay here. However, to say that the lack of talent is the logical reason for this clowns behaviour is just so ridiculously retarded that it could only be concluded by a complete idiot. By your reasoning the less attractive the girls in any particular area creates an increase in the amount of Neanderthal like actions by the local inhabitants. Can you not see how ridiculous your conclusion is here? I have been to Portugal, along with most areas of the UK, and I must admit to not encountering any area where hot girls throw themselves at me in aid of world peace. If you can think of any such areas from your vast expertise please let us know, I'm sure there will be many members on the brink of committing mass murder due to their lack of sexual activity. Burly Scots pushing guys on bikes into cars is clearly just the beginning.

Scott
You take things too personal...! I didn't take it personally, the guy could have been Japanese and I would have said the same thing. You're thinking I'm taking the "Scottish talent" comment personally, but I'm not... as I said that is your opinion and you are entitled to it, no argument from me there. I took exception to the, ridiculous, lack of talent = in-surge of rage hypothesis and gave my opinion based on that.
neilp9876
I was out last weekend at a club in Wycombe, it's a first in about 10 years for me. The amount of 20 year olds at the end simply looking for a fight was staggering, it's just the way it is and probably always has been. Group of boys / men + alcohol = aggressive behaviour. Feel sorry for the cyclist, he'd be in shock for a while.

neo2810
Had a good look in the light today and the is a tiny 3 bit scuff down the door where the handle bar must have just caught it (very tiny and will probably T-Cut out) and the tiny mark on the wing mirror but that's it. Very fortunate methinks, but still an unsavoury incident I'd prefer did not happen, more for the poor cyclist.
marbleapple
I have a few similar stories of Leeds. 1 mate of mine came out of a club and was stabbed int he stomach by a bloke he had seen before.Has to have his Kidney removed. 10 years ago now. Another mate asked a bloke why he was urinating over his trainers in the middle of the street. Bloke zipped up and put my friend in hospital. Both occassions it was unprovoked assaults for no reason other than alcohol. On a similar note I spent a night in a police cell for inserting my first into the head of one of a group of blokes attacking another one of my friends. Police arrested us all on mass. I was convinced to see my supra because my now wife because she told me we needed money for the wedding. My point: People are scum. Alcohol makes it worse... but irrespective of both scum and alcohol, women are the ruination of us all though. It wasn't some of RedM's 'students' learning to cross the road was it ? Where is he these days? Link?
