TLicense
My dad has just bought a '03 Toyota Celica (the 140bhp job) He's never had any decent cars, so this is a real first for him, and he's well chuffed with it. As a fathers day present I thought I would get him something for the car, after some thought I came up with the idea of getting the cd multichanger fitted for the factory head unit. The cost was £250, with over £100 fitting. Quite expensive, but he's a good dad so I thought sod it, and ordered it all up, and it was fitted yesterday by Toyota. Now bearing in mind this is a part supplied (although manufactured by Sony) and fitted by Inchcape Toyota in Kidlington, the fitting kit consisted of the necessary leads to hook it up to the headunit, and wait for it... 2 strips of velcro to hold it in place. FFS. You've got to be having a laugh surely? I mean, which engineer thought, OK so we've got to hold this thing in place, errmm, I've got an idea.....velcro. This has massively shocked me. I can't believe that there's a single bolt or bracket used to fix this. It's simply velcro'ed to the bottom of the boot. Guest Sakura
So - they charged you £100 to stick the autochanger down with two strips of velcro, and to plug it in to the back of the head unit? No wonder most people complain about main dealer rip-offs. How long can that have taken? Perhaps they have a new charge for "thinking" time. MARTIN R
Thats bloody awfull :thumbdown . In terms of installation how can they justify a cost like that
TLicense
I think the labour may have been more, not sure, my dad insisted that he pay for that. But yes, that's what they did. My dad thought he was taking the piss, but then he showed him the part number for the "Toyota fixing kit".
carl0s
yeah but shirely they've had to pull up the carpet and what not to get the cable from the headunit into the boot? Velcro sounds okay to me.. it's the running of that cable that must be a ballache.
TLicense
Velcro, is IMHO, not an engineered solution.
Syed Shah
Going the way of the Germans perhaps. Get a name for build quality, then spunge off it for the coming years. (Anyone who has had a new merc knows what I mean) Jap cars definately had better build quality in the 90s, all of them.
