Shane
We have just been told by the SHO that Carmel who has been poorly now for over two weeks and hospitalised for 4 days, has got Typhoid. We haven't been away for a while so she has picked it up locally which is a worry. She is 7 months pregnant too which has caused concern as until today they had no idea what was making her so ill. She really has been a sick chick. But at least now we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Difficult times.
pedrosixfour
Well I'm sure you can give Carmel our best wishes and she is not to lift a finger for the next two months. She has a gopher, she should make the most of it. Thats you by the way. I hope everything goes smoothly for all 3 of you from now til the new arrival has landed safely. Shane
Thanks. We have no idea where she picked it up, and can only at this time second guess. Its an illness that has to be reported to the public health people so we are going to get a visit from them soon so maybe have a better idea then. Her temps have been spiking badly today and that is the biggest concern at present. At one point this morning the digital thermometer wouldnt read as her temp had dropped outside of its range, which to me sounds crazy and they had to get a different type in to measure it. An hour later she had a fever and it had gone through the roof. But she has been started on the correct first line treatment now so we hope things will start to improve soon. Best wishes to Carmel and the babbie..!! How do you treat Typhoid then? H. Ciprofloxacin is the first drug they try, but some strains are becoming resistant to it from what I have read this evening. Shane
Thanks for all the good wishes. Just an update, looks like the antibiotics have started to do their stuff now as the spread in min and max temperatures has started be reigned in. She still a sick chick and not out of the woods but its looking better now than it has in the past 3 weeks. We've had the public health people interview us today as they are keen to trace the source. Shane
Well some good news, she has today been considered to be out off danger and moved out of icu. Shes still in isolation and a really poorly girl, but getting there. Looks like she will be in here for at least another two weeks though and that news has really upset her, but at least she and and our baby girl are both alive and got through the worst. Now I just have to work out how I am going to fit a working day in london and visiting everyday in. Only been into work for two half days this week and although they have been ok so far about it, it can't go on. Had visits from public health officials and people from the epa as they are keen to track the source but feel that is unlikely.
